From the personal experience:
Brian Crower Stage2 264 cams retain VCT; moderate driveability, a bit lazy from idle to midrange; idle is rough and sloppy, could be easily confused with turbo Subaru)
P.S. :
FYI, stiffer BC valve springs destroyed VCT gear in a couple of weeks, from a completely silent gear without any signs of rattle, to sounds of jackhummer under the valve cover.
