Rack and pinion Boot

Hi.

My boot is gone..

I thought that's tie rod boot, but it looks like CV boot.

So I figure that is rack and pinion boot.

Yeah.. so it's torn out and all the oil spilled.

So, here are my questions.

Have you guys driven FF car with torn out CV boot?

My S14 is like that...If I just fix the rack and pinion boot, will it be OK?

I don't wanna take bitch-ass tie rod out.. I think I can just slide in the boot.

Am I right?

Also, what kind of grease should I put in the boot?

Somehow, I see oil, not grease in the torn boot.

Thank you.

When I changed my tie rods, I noticed a little bit of oil with the grease. You're gonna have to take the tie rod end off to put on the boot on, at least you don't have to take the whole thing off.

There is some grease within the boot, but nothing else. If you're seeing an oily substance, the seals are blown in the rack. Replace the entire thing.

To change entire thing,

What parts should I get, and where can I?

Entire thing = steering rack. Rebuilt ones start at $219 and go up to $659 for OEM.

You can try and order the rebuilt kit and do it yourself, but even a few Nissan techs I know agree that it rarely holds up.
