Coilover size in relation to regular struts

here is my question. I have 17x9's +35 in the front. They clear my struts with a 5 mm spacer. My concern is with coils, that the wheels will hit. Anyone have any insight?

depending on tire size, camber, how low you are, what coilovers you get...

17x9 +20 clears most peoples coilovers without excessive camber

well with the camber in the front, the whole assembly moves, right. Do you think with the spacer I'll clear? KSport coils...

hoepfully this will make sense when I explain this. IIRC with the strut/spring combo your only clearing the strut, you don't have to worry about the spring b/c of how long the strut is. Coilovers however, the rim has clear the spring itself, and although the spring is much smaller width wise there is still less clearence.

with a 5mm spacer? no. I doubt a 10mm would do it either but you might get lucky. I'd go with a bolt-on 15-20mm to be safe. What size tires do you have?
Most people barely clear 9" wide with +20 offset and by that I mean a few mm.

I've seen a white hatch on here before. Same wheels as me just a different color. It was SLAMMED on the wheels, had to be coils. I can't really use a bigger spacer. The wheels already stick out a lot. Anyone else have any ideas.

Grant, get on AIM!!!!!! See the wheel is already about 2-3mm outside of the front fender. I just don't want to have to do that! Then i'll have to get some damn wide fenders.

Anything that doesn't rub with shocks will fit with coilovers.

Not true, if you would have looked at the lovely diagram a few posts up...it shows that the stock strut suspension allows more clearance because the strut housing is the only part that the tire can make contact with. With a coilover, the whole assembly is shorter, so now the spring (which has a bigger total diameter) is the part to make contact with the tire

Thank You

i have 17x9 +30 infront with silkroads. no spacer. but i have like 2mm to clear the spring on the coilovers. so with a +35 youd probably need atleast 10mm spacers to be safe.

I used to have silk roads, now i'm on KTS (Silk roads were way nicer, but unfortunately my car got hit and messed up one Silk). I think the Silk Roads were skinnier to provide more clearance.

what happened to form = function.

now it seems like everyone with nissnas want function = form....

ie. stretched, slammed ass, jdm tyte yo etc.

eh....

ghey imo.

in fact i dont even agree with running anything bigger than 9 inches on the s13, unless your car has the actualy HP to legitimate its use.

but thats my .02 cents

...so yeah go get some fat ass spacers.

well I've got 4, 9" wheels, so you should be pleased. I'm going to order some 10 spacers and roll with it.

Well no one on this thread is wondering about fitting anything over 9"s anyways. I traded my 15x7 rewinds for sportmax's then for work ewing mesh (16x8 +0). I don't think Form = Function, i think its supposed Function>Form.
