those who have solved strange oil burning issues... please help :(

A little background: 91 240sx... I swaped in a 94 180sx black top sr. during the swap i had the head ported, valve job, crower valve springs, crower titanium retainers, new exhaust valve guides installed, and head decked. I put the engine back togeter with a cometic metal head gasket, greddy oil pan, tubular exhast manifold, 3" turbo back exhaust, greddy FMIC, and installed a walbro 255 lph fuel pump.

I got the engine all wired up and it started first crank after i primed it with oil. yay I drove it around for about 30 miles of hard driving at 12-14 psi on the t25 over a month or two timespan (not my daily). then one day i noticed that it would puff a little blue smoke after it had been at idle for a min. or two and i blip the throttle. I did a vacume test and found steady strong vacume at idle and 1500-2000 rpm. Next i did a leak down. All cylinders had just under 2% (each one was exactly the same). I found that it didn't smoke right at start-up and wouldn't untill it warmed up a for a min. or two.

fastforward two months of it sitting. I finally got it insured, licensed, passed emissions and on the road. I have put a three or four hundred miles on it in the last week and a half of daily driving at 7-8 psi with a little bit of spirited driving once a day on my daily route. What i have found now is the smoking has gotten worse, now idling for 15 seconds will cause a puff of blue smoke at take-off. Also, after I am cruising on the hyway at 80 mph for a while or am just crusing the street for a while and come to a stop at a light I will stop and there will be no smoke for 10-15 seconds, then all of a sudden there will be a huge smoke screen exiting my tailpipe... Bad, a light blue smoke just everywhere
(like a smoke machine), but if it starts to do it and i quickly hold the rpm at 1,500 it will stop and be clean.

I thought valve guides, but they are new and it doesn't smoke at start-up and my spark plugs look like they are burning clean and for another reason that i don't remember right now...ha ha anyway, it will smoke a little if i blip the throttle quickly at 1,500 and 2,000 and maybe even 3,000, but just a little puff.

My bov is on the hot pipe and blows a little bit of a oily black substance out of it but not a ton and the hot side of my intercooler is bone dry and clean at the inlet and in the hot pipe itself. is it normal for a little oily crap to come from the bov?

oh, and the pcv is dry and not giving much if any blow-by. and the engine still smokes with it unhooked

If anyone is cool enough to have read this far then I would very much value your input on my problem. I would like to know if there is anything i missed that i could check or if you SR guys have had this problem and know the answer.

Thanks again and I hope you guys can help me out!

Sounds like the seals in the turbo are going.

^^ I hope, but my charge pipe is clean. Also, when it does the smoke screen thing after coming to a stop the smoke is more of a white like coolant, but it has a blue tint.

Its probably the seals on the exhaust side, which is why you dont see any on the charge pipe.

I heard that when they go out on the exhaust side that they coulp leak when the turbo is at rest, then kind of seal up once it gets a load on it which is why if i hold it at 1,500 rpm it will not smoke. does this sound right? also, the smoke from when it idles for one second and the throttle is bliped is very blue, however the smoke when i come to a light and it starts to play smoke screen is a white with a blue tint. does this point to the turbo also? is it at all possible for the coolant to leak into the oil system in the turbo? because it seems i am making oil, but it smells more like fuel since i have a walbro 255 and no tune and the car is very rich at WOT.

Does any of your oil level go down over time?

It actually looks like it is going up just a little bit possibly (smells a little like fuel possibly from the fact that has a walbro 255 + all the mods and no tune. I am rich at WOT). To answer your question though, no it doesn't appear to be using very much oil, but it is burning lots of oil... lol weird

an engine that burns a lot of oil will consume a quart between oil changes (like the Z06 in my garage, but it's got a 6qt pan, so its no big deal). If you're not seeing an "appreciable" difference in oil levels, you're either not measuring the oil level right, or you're not burning enough to worry about it.
