I Need Advice!!!
I've been wanting a 240sx fb for a long time now and today I went to go check one out. It was a 1991 240sx LE with a really nice white paint job, but of course there were some bad things about the car...
The Bad- -The guy has only had the car for 2 weeks -There is 206xxx miles on the car, but he says the motor was rebuilt 70xxx miles ago w/ a new stock oem clutch installed -OEM stock clutch (soft & and lets out at the top) -It has some surface rust in the back right corner inside the car -The glove box is broken -The dome light was taken out -The driver side rain guard is all bent up cuz someone tried to break in -It doesn't seem to pull hard (but it is a fb with a stock clutch) -6 cracks on the dash -power steering line is leaking, but he has a replacement -Driverside seat was ripped up, and the carpet behind the passanger seat looked like the threat was pulled off of the matt. The Good- -The paint is in great shape -The motor appears to run great (but doesn't pull as hard as mine) - The tranny shifts better then any 240 tranny i've ever felt -Navigation/DVD player So the guy is asking 3700 w/nav and 3100 without nav. When I talked to him on the phone before i went to look at it he said the car is in great shape with low miles and said the only problem was that the power steering line was leaking. Then I get there and see all these other things and I notice that the dash he posed up had no cracks on it, then when I get to his house there are 6 huge cracks in the dash. He also had a sil 80 with the dash in mint condition, so I think he might have switched them. I think 3100 is way too much for the condition it's in, I'd have to sell my 240sx Coupe to get this one and even though my car has oxidation and needs paint, it runs strong and pulls hard. Any help is appreciated. |

Its not worht it. The guy knows what he has, and how popular it is. He's hoping to find some F&F fanboy to sell it to. hopefully you arent like that. I got my 89 with 140xxx miles for 2 grand, in immaculate condition... almost. Show him the KBB value for private party resale.
Point out all the flaws and offer him at most 2000 for it. If he doesnt take it, then walk away. http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?ManufacturerId=35&YearId=1991&V ehicleClass=UsedCar&VehicleId=OC8xNy8yMDA3fDExMTkw &PriceType=Private+Party&ModelId=464&Mileage=20600 0&SelectionHistory=11190%7c3945%7c90210%7c0%7c0%7c 397099%7ctrue%7c397139%7ctrue&Condition=Fair&QuizC onditions=0 this is for fair value. its worth 1500. I used 90210 because i didnt know of any other california zip codes. But yeah thats about it.

Yeah, I do know better- I just got hypnotized by something I've wanted since I first got my drivers license. I feel bad cuz I put my car up for sale and now I'm gonna have to break the bad news to him tomorrow.
The way 240's are these days everybody's up selling them like mad. |

Listen to these guys and wait. This car would be considered in poor condition and with rust I would offer 500 bucks and thats it. It sounds like he got what he needs and is trying to rip you off.
I would go a step further and tell you to never buy a 240 without running a compression test first. If the guy won't let you do it he doesn't want to sell the car. |

like they said...i waited and waited and was about to pickup a rust bucket, but got lucky and found a 93 coupe base model AT with a small rust hole in the trunk pan (common in any 15 year old car) and it was from SC. picked it up for $1200 with 180,xxx miles

In case you missed my post on the 209 board, check the Modesto craigslist and search 240sx. The first listing is a hatch in Merced for 1800. Price is a lot better, and will probably be in better shape. You've got other options in the area, but search man, don't give up yet!

yeah I saw your post. I have the money to buy a really nice 240 and I saw a high price and the pix looked good, I thought it was gonna be in mint condition but I got fooled.
And I know I'm probably being picky but I don't want a red car and I want low miles- I have the money to spend and this time I want my 240 to look amazing, inside and out. |

yea, patience is key... it took me a very long time to find my car... but it was all worth the wait...
i live in OC, and i took the bus to sacramento to pick up the car... hahahahah... don' ask me how i found it... i just seached the web like crazy... but wait for what you want.. good condition and running well... they come up here and there... not sure if you searched... but craigslist, autotrader, ebay(locall only), and may be some local car sales things... they have likek this auto parking lot where people brign their cars to sell... also check out yahoo used car listings too... hope this helps... |

DO NOT buy it, look around, this a-hole is tryin to take people for a ride, a bad one. The paint probably 'looks' awesome cause he paid for a sweet $300 maaco paint job. Yeah , especially if you got the cash, wait and look. Craigslist is awesome. Look here on Zilvia, you can find cars that have all the costly! dirty work done, so you can start building on these. i.e. 5lug, tie rods, coils, z32 brake, etc..
OK GL! Oh yeah, make sure it's an interior you like, and don't just say oh i'll convert it to a black interior. easy, if you like paint, but still painfully detail oriented shit.

^^^ Lucky bastard, lol.
... but yeah, I've done a lot of work to this coupe to keep it running, now that I have money and nothing is wrong on my car I thought now would be a good time to get a hatch. These are all the new parts I have put on my car in the past 16 months.... -Remanufactured head with new valves -New Head & Valve cover gaskets -Oil sending unit (Brand New, from Nissan) -Painted Valve cover -Past smog 2 months ago, good till 2009 -S14 Tranny with 85xxx miles on it -Centerforce Dual friction plated Clutch -Master clutch cylinder -Slave clutch cylinder (Brand New, bought directly from Nissan dealership) -Pioneer 6 1/2 front speakers 260 watt TS-A1681R (Installed 4 months ago) -Leather shift boot (Brand New) -AEM Intake with CARB legal tags -Tires have 90% tread left -Silvia trunk lock -It's wired for subs -Front strut bar, I have the rear- just not installed -New universal radiator Yeah I have taken real good care of this car, I was just hoping I would find another owner who would have done the same.
