Help With Fuse Box Meltage!!!

to make it simpler, to instal a new fuse box, is it a grip of wiring or is it just a harness on the back and you just unplug them plug???? (((((fuse box behind kick panel)))))

okay, fuse blew that controls the running rear tail light and the odometer lighting... i replaced it! so a day later, last night, on the way home from getting the greatest ice cream, my car smelled like ass and there was smoke everywhere.... so i pull over, noticed my tail running lights werent working again and thought FUSE! so i look in the fuse box and i see a 40 amp fuse MELTED AS FUCK!!! so, i pulled the mess out tonight, and no fuse will work it ust melts.... so im guessing i have to buy a whole new fuse box!?!?!?! am i right? so ill buy a new fuse box and how the hell do you put it in??? is there just a harness on the back of the fuse box by the driver side kick panel, or do i have to spend like 8 grs wiring and shit!?!?!? please help asap if you have a conclusion to my problem! until i get this fixed i cannot drive at night! GHEEEEEY!!!

btw, its a KA-E and its the fuse box behind the kick panel on the driver side by your left foot area.

Yes, it's just plug and play but I think you have a bigger problem than that. You probably have something shorted out for you 40 A to melt.

i dont think so... so i can just unplug the WHOLE fuse box, just rip it out? just pull? and then put the other one back on? lmk man.. this is dribing me nuts! thanks.

There's alot of people on here that know about wiring, unfortunately they don't frequent the Tech or chat sections much anymore. You'll be lucky if Russ sees your thread and chimes in.

If you found a melted box with a 40A fuse in it, then you've got big problems. The function of a fuse is to not allow MORE amps through the circuit than it can handle. Hence the reason almost every fuse in the fuse box is either a 10A or 15A, a couple 20s and 7.5s. IIRC the specified fuse for the tail lamps is 15A, so what happened to your car was an excess of 25 A running rampant through that circuit.

You've got fried wires my friend. And you're lucky your car didn't burst into an electrical fire while you were driving....damn lucky.

You know those cars you cometimes see on the side of the 91 fwy engulfed in flames???? Well that could have been you. Here's a tip that pretty much ANY car enthusiast should automatically know, "NEVER RUN A FUSE HIGHER THAN THE SPECIFIED FUSE IN ANY GIVEN CIRCUIT.....OR YOU WILL DIE." j/k

While I'm assuming you didn't put that fuse in there to begin with you should awlays check ALL your fuses on a new car to make sure someone hasn't royally fucked you.

What you will need to do is source out another used fuse box with all the wire tails still connected to it. Then get to splicing. You will have to re-splice ALL the wires to the new fuse box...so no there isn't a pigtail plug back there that can just magically swap it out for you.

You will also want to run a circuit test on the tail lamp wires to see which wires got fried. If you don't replace them then you'll just keep blowing fuses or the circuit simply will not work. IIRC there's only 5 or 6 wires running to the tail lamps. So get your FSM and get to it!!!

fuck.... aight thanks man... and i have no clue about wiring so i gotta talk to someone about doin it... thats one thing i just wont understand.. its rediculous... so just get a new fuse box, then how do i get the other one out to start messing with the wires???

btw, for some reason there was a 30a fuse in there...

well if you refuse to understand basic electricity then I wouldn't advise yourself to be pulling anything out. Leave it to a professional.

If you find another fuse box at a junk yard, get it so that you have wire tails coming off the back, I'd say cut the wires off at around1' of length. That way you'll have enough room to splice.

Then just find a reputable shop that does wiring and pay them to fix your shit. If you're constantly blowing new fuses that you put in there then you got some wires melted/fused together that aren't supposed to be. To be honest you are prolly gonna need a new chassis & dash wiring harness to be safe. Once you start having melted wires then you're whole car wiring system is suspect.

naw it was just one fuse in the fuse box... not the whole box or anything... all compartments in it are fine.
