Ya, it's for the AT. Not sure what it does exactly. I remember a long time ago someone said unplug it and your car will shift way harder. Haha.

I read that a few years ago though.

A/T shift sensor. It helps the A/T shift smooth. Disconnect it and the shifts will be abrupt

LOL! Mine caught fire on my s-13 too! I was on a canyon run a few years ago and I smelled something burning but it went away pretty quickly. The next day I saw it all melted! Weird though, the car ran the same as far as I could tell.

It is definately a sensor for the auto transmission.

Do what he said whether you are going manual swap or not. I ran mine for about 2 years before I went 5-spd. and it worked fine with it unplugged. I think it is a pressure sensor for the tranny to tell it when to shift into each gear, after I unplugged it the downshifts into the corners were almost immediate. With it plugged in the tranny shifts when it feels comfortable rather than the moment you throw it into a gear. I would rather it shift when I told it to which is why I left it unplugged.

^wow... how many people just said it's a resistor for the auto? Does it really need to be said THAT many times?

I love 2008
