KA-T Smoking ?
Okay, well i have an s14, ka2de 1995.
installed turbo on my s14. didnt put the downpipe in so the smoke is coming out of the engine bay. anyone know why its smoking? i'm thinking its a blown turbo, seals are blown. anyone have any inputs? thanks. ignore the fmic, cf hood etc. if this thing doesnt work out the way i want it to work out, im gonna sell all the stuff that i got for the car. my setup. sr t25. fmic, with recirc bov. 370cc injectors. afc neo. unknown turbo manifold. stock sr turbo elbow. im uploading the video right now ....... its lagging it! ill post it once its uploaded! thanks!! |

well if you can see smoke coming out the turbo elbow then its fucked or super super rich
or if its just coming out the bay when you change alot of shit grease gets on everything and when it heats up its just oil/grease burning off manifold ect. |

coming out of the elbow. if i had the downpipe and exhaust on it would come out of the exhaust for sure.
i was thinking it was running rich as hell, but it was tuned with an air fuel safc, and still the same, it was running with smoke on first startup with no tune, and ran with smoke with tune, and on throttle it gets worst. edit: youtube is lagging on upload. ill leave my comp on and upload it. ill post it when i wake up. thanks! |

one first start up, it was running super super super rich, to the point to where the gas burned out eyes, now its just white smoke, i was thinking the seals are bad. sigh. everyone with a t25 has it in their cars already and no one has the free time to take it out and have no car.

im just trying to find out of the turbo is blown or not, i bought it off a zilvia member, and he said he would give me my money back if i brought it back to him since he said it was in excellent condition, he said to give him a call if anything happens. maybe if i didnt buy it for so much i'd probably buy a rebuild kit.
so the turbo is pretty much blown yeah? =/ |

^^^^^^ exactly if your engine didnt smoke prior to turbo and on your first start up after turbo it smoked well then its probably turbo, although running rich will produce same result what are your safc neo settings maybe you are still to rich. check your housing bolts on turbo, also how big is yor dump tube big enough i hope. I see a green s13 silvia conversion SR20det redtop, maroon s14 zenki KA24DE, white S2000 with wide body... and in the far distance you might spot a black spec thats an s14 wide body with deep dish work meister s1 wheels!!! Hi Jin, I'm sure it's the turbo seals bro... I shall find you a T25 asap!!!

it was NA awhile back, then the last owner turbo'd it, and removed it and its been NA for about 2 months, running fine, no smoke, then now its turbo again. and it started smoking. how big should the dump tube be? it's pretty big to me, its about the same size as the stock sr dump., and i check my oil numerous amount of times. im not sure what its set at, ill write it down and post it. if i can get a ride to my car.

Do a compression test
More than likely its the turbo, if you've driven it check the intercooler for oil I dont think a n N/A with bad rings smoke that much at idle

drove it around in circles a couple laps, not driving it hard, ill check the intercooler for oil though for sure.
ill do a compression check as well. also for some reason, when it starts boosting, a little, like a little less than half throttle, when i put it in nuetral after driving it a LITTLE more than cruising, it just shuts off right after it boost. and when i step on the gas a little more than usual, it seems like it doesn't let me, as if the car struggles. so im assuming i can't full throttle it, so i never tried, any reasons why? thanks for all the input, i was just really disappointed when it was all done and the outcome was it smoking =/ |

^^^^^^^ this sounds alittle like anti stall not tuned right on neo, what are your decel settings on neo, better yet what are your settings on the neo. just pm them to me i will go over them givem all to me fuel correction maf in out hi lo set points. etc

would you mind sending me your settings on your afc?
thats what im thinking, that the settings aren't right. i can't even full throttle it. seems like its running rich? i'm not really sure, but ill give you the info when i get to my car. thanks for the help. |

ok its hard to diagnose cars over the computer but
first of all dont drive the car, dont boost shit i know you want to drive it but its not worth it. ok to me it sounds like you are fighting two problems the first one being smoke i like to start off doing the things that dont cost alot and are not a pain in the ass. maby try and put a oil restrictor in the turbo line, my old t3 turbo smoked like hell just like yours without a restrictor and its cheap to try. if that does not work then swap out the turbo and for the car running like crap i know nothing about neos and i dont want to if you dont find any help here try ka-t.org |

i drove the car around in circles thinking its just buring off left over grease, i hardly hit boost, i drove really slow. 1500 rpm and lower. so when you put a restrictor in yours, it ran fine? i'll give that a try. the neo, im not sure how to tune it, my friend with an safc 2 tuned his by himself and it runs fine. so i asked him and he tried doing it to mine. i was thinking about swaping out the turbo as well if the turbo is blown, maybe ill ask my friend if he is willing to pull his turbo out and let me try it.
we'll see. thanks for the input. i tried ka-t.org. forum is so dead there. Lol |

Mine did that with three different T25's.
All of them were used and maybe it was a coincidence that they all blew seals, but I got tired of swapping out turbos and went back to n/a KA. |

Yuppers, my T25 did that on my KA-T hatch, but only after sitting for a few mins. Wouldnt do it under boost, but say after I locked the car and the timer was still going....in a minute or two of idling it would starting POURING the same smoke from out of the exhaust. T25s are peanuts cheap, that or get a T28 and enjoy some more top end. T25s dont have the capability to flow that much in the upper RPMs on 400ccs extra of exhaust flow.

Yea and a little bit of oil would drip into the housing and just burn. Smell it, it smells just like unburnt (as in uncycled through the motor, not like out of the back of a dodge minivan burning) oil. Did you used to have a 300ZX? I have a 91 TT actually, and LOVE it

i used to have a 300zx wayyyy back then, not anymore though, im trying to figure out why its smoking, im gonna try acouple of things today. play with the afc, and if that doesnt work, then im gonna swap out the turbo and try my friends turbo, if his turbo works fine, then i have a blown turbo.

removed the turbo, found out turbo seals are blown, oil everywhere, played with shaft and it was extremely crazy, borrowed friends spare t25 and installed with same setup, and it worked perfectly fine, runs fine, and i can full throttle, the blown one, i didnt even try to full throttle, when i reach almost half throttle it wants to die already ...
