Tein

I am planning to get TEIN full coil over system but before i buy em i'm wondering how the ride quality is and just other facts in general. PLease give me the 411! I just got my S13 and i have very little idea on almost everything.

dont buy teins. POS coilvoers for track use imho, and YES i know because i use them on the track. go JIC or Zeal for track

street? TEINS ARE GREAT!! i have 8/6 and it rides comfortably. everyone who rides in my car says 'damn feels good'. so for street wonderful. for track i have it set to full max stiffness and stll too soft. going 9/7 haha..


anywyas, i'd say go Tein Flex. you can buy the EDFC and do all that adjustment inside the car. good stuff .my HEs cant use it. the ates are great for street. good setup for streets.

id say go tein flex. i'm sure you can find a great price on it. you can use EDFC (electronic damper f... control) haha..something like that. you can adjust the damper from inside. good stuff.

HAs are common too. but flex have more adjustability, wont rust and always come with camber plates. that's great already for a street set-up!

They are actually not too bad on the track. Maybe not for drift, but then, not everyone is into drifting.

I run Tein HR's (non-adj) on the track and my car seems to like them. It feels pretty stable and the softer rates (like 6/5 or so F/R) like to soak up uneven pavement and dips rather than bounce off of them. Coupled with my whiteline sway bars and body roll is very controlled (aaron, you ever get your whiteline issues straightened out?)

I think I want to go to truechoice and have them set me up with a revalved/shortened Koni setup next.

charlie, this weekend is the drift event at willow springs you should come out. its on the 29th!! at least to hang out if anything. we gotta meet up sometime.

anyways the sways. i got stock endlinks now..2 sets of front ones. goign to use those on the f and r of the sways if all goes well. gotta fix my KA first before of course but alls good.

my thing with teins: shock size is SMALL. my friend's JIC FLT-A2s are stiffer on his softer settings then my teins are on the hardest settings. thta blows!

anyways. hopefully the endlinks will fix my crap whiteline bar problems. if not back to stockers, sell the whitelines and get some Largus sways..mmm beefy!

yes i am. i go to all that stuff. hence no money for that SR business or paint jobs haha..goes to tires and track fees. oh well. i love the seat time. need more events. right now just at track about 2-3 times a month. i want every weekend busy at the track...mm

i was planning on getting some TIENs, but i dont know which one is for me. how do i know which one i will like best? are TIENs good for dragging? im more into going to the drag track, but i plan to learn how to do some autoX and mayb a lil bit of drifting..so i guess TIENS arent a good choice.

how are the Zeal B2s? or B6s? whats the difference between the two?

also, is there any type of "EDFC" for the Zeals? or does only TIEN have that

tein flex i still say.

zeal costs MUCH MORE. its not worth f you are just doing that. unless you do it VERY OFTEN. i'd say go zeals.

b2 is non adjustable (damper) iirc. single height adjust (spring only)
b6 are 6 way dapmer adj. double height adj. and rebuildable for revalving etc


flex will do you well.

no only tein has edfc

any info on the GP sports new suspension? or the blitz coil-overs?

im looking at JIC FLT-A2, TEIN HE, GP Sports Coils or the Blitz Racing coils. Something around 8/6 or 9/7.

I have TEIN HA on my GS300, and it is quite stiff i really like it. We have had the coils for over a year and still no rust whatsoever. I spray with a little white lithium grese each time i adjust the height and it is perfect.

Dousan, have you considered ordering new springs for your coils you have now? would be much cheaper and you can specify the exact specs... also if you send in your coils they can stiffen the shock (i forget exactly what its called)

what's up LexusRules.
some of the GP is non damper adjust...so be careful.blitz is both but i forget. cant read japanese yet and i'm not a blitz fan.

i'd say go JIC FLT-A2. my friend has it and its quality. jic can revlave too for you and you can usually order it to your spec (spring rates you want). my friend ordered it thru JDMRecyler and another friend thru Phase2 (he ordered 8/7kg springs)!
damn i want to dump my HEs! puny shock piston! BLEH!!

um for mine
yeah i'm ordering new springs in jan/feb. 9/7! cost 50 bucks each spring. not bad!
i spoke with tein USA about it. they said it is ok to go up or down 1 kg but beyond that (like if i want 10/8) i need revalving for it. but i'll be ok w/ 9/7kg. so i'll do that soon. i dont mind the stiffness on the street. when u track event a lot its well worth.

also if you send in your coils they can stiffen the shock (i forget exactly what its called)----revalving. i heard tein doesnt do it yet.

but i know jic does. its $100 per shock iirc!

i called tein they said they do revalving for the flex damper so i dont see why they couldn't for your HA! when was the last time you called them? this was about 1 month ago. Maybe it was a misunderstanding but i know he told me if i change the spring rate too much they have to revalve. So it looks like it would be around 600 for a full changeover... not bad!

any good place to get the FLT-A2 slightly used? i wouldn't mind if they were a bit used so long as they aren't BENT!! i've seen some places trying to sell bent coil-overs from japan... it would be nice if i could find a set around $1000usd though.

hey kids... i used to have Tien FLex but i always thought the ride was kinda mushy. and i felt that the tiens were too expensive for drifting! hehe so anyways my little brother has them now and i use the Ground control w nismo shocks (made by KYB/AGX) not actually for drifting but they can hold pretty nice. i got them used and cheap so i like them plus i suck at drifting anyway so why blow really expensive shocks and coliovers for ones that do the same job as well? ok thats it you rock! holla

the TEIN FLEX would be way too soft if you didnt order new springs from the factory with the coils, they are like 6/5 or whatever!! WAY too soft.

nah man, i got tein HE!! no HA. hate HA. waaaaay tooooo soft
i need some nice jic ones..fat piston, 10/8 spring rates ahhhh. anyways
jdmrecycler. lookin classifed he sells quite bit of stuff. good rep from everyone i've met.

i would never buy used coilovers. its too much of a risk

it all depends how it goes next year. if i can get some Zeals...

well i probably wouldnt sell my HEs anyways. its always importnat to have back-ups when you go to the track 3 times a month!!

Zeal B2's are on a lower level than RA's. You would have to atleast choose B6's to have a half decent comparison. The RA's would require an overhaul sooner because of their valving and spring rate. Both are good but if you will be hitting the circuit a lot get the RA's. RA is actually street geared witha ratio that is closer to 60% track/40% street. Settings will depend on tires used, track surface, driver style and the amount of preload that is set.

I got the tien HA's and I love them. I have used them for street, track and drifting and never had any kind of prob. It does give a great ride on the street, but for any thing else its just a matter of adjusting to your prefrance. I personally like the ride I get all around. I would suggest riding in someones car that has them and feel for yourself. later

this may be somewhat of a newbie question but I did a search and couldnt find exactly what i was looking for... but ... can someone explain the number being given....(8/6 9/7 ect...)

I will buy tein flex/EDFC suspension in jan and i would like to know what im getting into...thanks for the help...

the 8/6 and 9/7 are the rates of the springs in kg/mm for the front (first number) and rear (last number).

I've had the Tein HE on my S14 for about a week now. I don't mind the stiffness at all (can't say the same for my passengers) but I'm a bit worried about what they do to my car on really bumpy roads, even on the softest setting. When I drive over a big dip in the road, like when the elevation suddenly changes on the freeway, it feels really harsh and I can hear the spare wheel in the trunk fly up and fall back down. The car also creaks more when going up driveways now. I'm waiting for my sunroof to just suddenly pop off one day. :P I'm not sure how suitable Tein HE is for some of the horrible streets around here. It's fine on most roads though.

I haven't taken the car to a track since putting on the coilovers but they handle great on mountain roads that are smooth. It's a huge difference from stock shocks/springs. But I didn't try going fast on the bumpy turns because I don't know how well the short stroke would handle them. Can anyone tell me? I'm just worried that the wheels might come off the road and make me understeer into the mountain, or off the cliff.

Despite the roads being so abusive now, I'm loving the Tein HE. =P The handling's much better and the ugly S14 wheel well gap is gone. I was lucky to be able to get them because everywhere I asked was on 1 to 2 months backorder.

Edit: Ah $#!+... My Tein HE's instructions came in Japanese so I didn't know the settings should be set from hardest to softest going counter-clockwise and should not exceed a certain number of clicks. (Pat just showed me the English manual online. http://www.tein.com/ti/inst/yn66u.pdf) I've had them on full soft for a week. Gotta change that tomorrow. =P

i have the HA on my other car, dont worry about iti h ad it on full soft for a while too it didnt do any damage.

my friend has the JIC FLT-A2's on his FC and they ride pretty stiff, not to bad for street driving, perfect for auto-X. His little brother has the Tein HA's, and when i drove with him, it seemed like someone else stated earlier, "mushy". I originally had been lokking at Teins, but know that I have driven in a JIC equipped vehicle, I am convinced JIC is better overall.
