I was wondering how much a used vlsd from a wrecking yard usually costs. I was quoted $575 shipped for an Infiniti J30 VLSD and I don't know. What do you guys think? Thanx

Just FYI
A viscous limited slip uses a thick (silicon-based?) fluid that gets thicker with heat. This fluid acts as a clutch between the plates of the two shafts. If one shaft begins to spin significantly faster than the other, the viscous fluid will thicken and 'lock' the other shaft so power is more evenly distributed and wheelspin is minimized. more info

BTW, $575 sounds pretty steep...I say keep looking.

Thanx... I found another in Canada for 350 but its gonna cost like 100 bucks to ship it. So I guess the price is still pretty high. Its my only option, I guess, Rapid Shitty(City), SD isn't going to have any soon.

not sure if this is a dumb question or not, but do you have to switch to 5 lug to swap the lsd?

Nope...at least not as far as I know. You only have to swap the differential. Anyone know how much labor this is?

You might have to shorten the driveshaft by one inch but I'm not sure. Other than that, you are good to go with an M30 diff.

Go to 240sx.org and click the installs botton. the LSD swap page gives info on how to and which lsd's will fit from which cars.

Do all S14 se's have LSD's? My tranny has been giving me attitude lately so I might just swap it with an SE tranny if the miles are right and it has an LSD.

Nope, its an option on the se's. Theres a good web page with the info fro determining if it has an LSD from the model # thta sombody posted before. Donr remember it offhand though.
The labor shouldnt be much I wouldnt think, but i would just reccomend doin it yourself. Its really easy. As long as the driveshaft and output shafts are the same, which the should be if you have an s14 w/ abs, then its just 6 bolts on each output shaft, 4 on the driveshaft, and 4 to mount it.
