stock lsd on a 1989 240sx?
Just curious, does anyone know if VLSD came on any 1989 240sx? I was thinking of an LSD for my car but I want to stay in stock class for solo II.
Also, does anyone know the largest wheel size and diameter that came on the 1989? |

The 16 inch alloys were only for the s14's (SE and LE I believe). Not the base models though, they still had 15 inch wheels. All the s13's had 15 inch wheels.

I don't think there was an option for LSD on the 89-90
![]() the two different tire sizes you could get were the 195/60/15, like kareem said, and you could get 205/60/15.

if you want an LSD that badly, find a HICAS-equipped 240 or a non turbo 300zx (Z32) or mid 90s J30. All of these will bolt in (some may require different or modified axles, though)

S13 OEM LSDs come from '91-'93 US models :P (as well as '89-'98 JDM). It's just '89 and '90 that didn't have them available in the US.
The rules are there to be bent... I've autocrossed my GTI in STS even though the engine mods technically put it in something like E Modified. Noone's ever complained because I suck ass and I'm uncompetitive anyway. People might start to wonder if you're cleaning up at nationals and seem to have way too much grip on corner exit. At the local level, if you're not a top finisher noone's going to give a damn at all. |

99% positive.
Jack up the rear. Look for the "VISCOUS LSD" sticker on the diff. It's bright orange, can't miss it. No sticker, no LSD. Because of the independent rear, the 240SX won't tend to "prefer" one tire over another, and under some conditions you will be able to spin both rear wheels with an open diff. |

Just to put things in perspective, It's not that I really want LSD (I do) but I want to know whether to get a VLSD so I can stay in stock class or rather just say screw the whole thing and get a Kaaz 2-way because either way I want an LSD but I'd prefer to stay stock if I can.
edit: akadriver, very true, i will stick with a vlsd. I'm not that good of a driver anyway ![]() |

I don't recall an LSD as an option on the '89 and '90 models, though 205/55 tires were. 15" alloys were an option as well. You'd probably want to check with the people in your particular competition, as regional rules vary. For the SCCA, I don't think you can make many suspension changes outside of shock absorbers, and remain in stock class.

For Stock, tire sizes are free, front sway bars are free, shock absorbers of the original design are free, and you can use any wheels that are exactly the same size as stock and within 1/4" (6mm) of stock offset. |

misnomer, I think you can place "standard" parts on the car. So if VLSD came as a factory option it would be okay to put it on the car even if i didn't have it originally (someone correct me if i'm wrong). but you couldn't put an afm clutch type or torsen type like the kaaz, cusco, nismo, quaife etc.

Right.
It also has to be a factory configuration, though... If the VLSD only came in an option package (like the '91-'93 handing package with HICAS) you have to have the rest of the package. |
