Exclamation Engine Trouble: URGENT!!

At idle, my 95 makes a nasty rubbing sound that only gets worse when I turn the steering wheel. After a few minutes smoke starts to come out of the side where the intake manifold is located. I also got a nasty oil leak there so that could explain the smoke. But, I don't see how the smoke could relate to the noise. If you know how this relates, or if you have any advice let me know quick.

I don't see where you got 'taking stuff apart' from uiuc's post. Anyway, you probably have a leaky PS line, so it'd be a good idea to check all your lines to find the leak & fix it quicky. Replacement steering racks are not cheap.

I guess I got ahead of myself with "taking stuff apart." But Even if i did have a leak with the PS line wouldn't it still run the same as long as there was enough fluid?

if i had my power steering burn out because of a leak would that make me have to get a steering rack or just replace the ps hoses and pump or whatever???

Check your belts they might be worn or dry, you can put some belt dressing see if that helps.

Check your tie rod ends for busted seals, if the seals are broken replace them immediately!! Tie rod ends tend to dry out and fail while you're on a turn and send you off the road and into unhappy town.

They're about sixty bucks each at your Nissan dealer.
Also check your entire rack for any fluid leakage. They noise may be your rack assembly if it's already bad, cross your fingers!!

Have you had to refill the fluid constantly? If so how much?

Found the problem. My alternator was making the smoke AND the noise. I was using some belt dressing on the alternator pulley and it worked great, for 20 seconds. The noise just keeps coming back and the alternator keeps on smoking. I think I'm going to have to replace it. If anyone else has a remedy for this I'm all ears.
