The guy i bought my car from said the "check engine" light goes on when the MAP sensor gets dirty, and he told me all i have to do is clean it. While driving today my light turned on for awhile. So my question is, how do i go upon cleaning it?

Thanks

If you mean the airflow sensor, all you have to do is take it out... Wipe it down.  Spray with brake cleaner, wipe it down again. Make sure you don't leave anything wet, and put it back in.  Or you could just buy  a new one. :-)

You're talking about the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, right?  I shouldn't get dirty.  Sensors normally don't get dirty and cause problems on a regular basis.

Are you referring to a different part than me? (I was under the impression they were the same, but I could be wrong).  Stuff does build up on the MAF sensor occasionally, dirt, grime, grease, especially if you have a high flow (low filter) air cleaner, or run an open intake (dumb).  After I cleaned mine, the car idled much more smoothly, gained a few more km/g and pulled in the lower range just a little more (maybe not, the ass dyno is not very accurate :-) .

Yeahman, the MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure, the MAF Mass Air Flow sensor.  Completely different.  Actually, I'm curious about the MAF being dirty.  All the mud I go through, I wouldn't be surprised if it is.  Don't know how, though.  Where exactly is it located?  I'm gonna take approximates since I have the truck, but it should be close to the same location.

I think MAP is actually a different kind of sensor for measuring airflow. That might be what honda's user (or speed-density, who knows?) .. Anyway its located just behind your intake, and its a black looking piece of intake plumbing with a black box attached and wires coming out before the turbo (if you have one)..

The KA has a MAP sensor as well as a MAF sensor. The MAP sensor I believed is used before or at startup, and the MAF is used while the car is running. The MAP sensor is located in the intake manifold, while the MAF is located inline the intake tract. Honda's use a MAP sensor exclusively, and I’m fairly certain they are the only companies to do that, although I’m not entirely sure.

Your MAF is probably what’s getting you in trouble, just unhook it and clean it fallowing proper procedure (I’m not sure on what that procedure is, so consult a manual).:)
