I assume you have the SR20DET? They are always a PITA to get the tranny back onto the motor.

probably your new pilot bushing is not pushed back far enough - or you damaged it installing it - a way to tell is take the clutch alignment tool and see it it will go into the pilot bushing hole - if it wont go n the tranny input shaft will not for sure

make sure the input shaft is lined up with the clutch disk

when you get it lined up - grab it from the rear of the tranny and start wiggling it up and down while pushing inward

It will take a bit of wrestling with but it will go in - make sure you have the dowel pins on the motor lined up with the tranny holes - then get it in close enough to install the bolts and the just tighten them down in a X pattern

The SR tranny is a bit heavier than the KA - so it will wear you down

I had the same issue with my first SR tranny - then after I pulled it agin and installed it back on - It went on fairly easy - It ended up being that the new pilot bushing wasnt pushed back far enough.

Also another way to make sure your cluch disk will fit - pull the tranny off and slide the clutch disk onto the trany input shaft

LMK if you need more help

I am making you a clip from my SR20DET Swap DVD - I will post it as soon as it loads up.

I wish you weren't so far or else I'd help you for beer and pizza in return.

The way we got mine on was we had 3 ppl. 2 on the ground lifting the transmission and 1 guy managing the floor jack that we placed the transmission on. This way it was easier to lift the transmission and move it around so that it would find its way in. It's not wiggling that you need to do, but slight rotating both counter and clockwise. With this method you don't tire yourself out as much and you're able to be more patient while moving it around to get it to slide in correctly.

You have to rotate the trans and install it upside down, otherwise bellhousing wont clear trans tunnel. So in otherwords install it upside down and once its on you can rotate it. Try that it should work out.

With 2 jack stands and a trans jack I can usually do the job myself. If I had more garage space id bench the bitch on there, but my garage is cramped so a trans jack helps balance the weight.

If you cant get it on after all this - then something is wrong with your stuff!

I seriously hope your trying to put the tranny on with the motor in the car as that is a huge PITA to do without a tranny jack (which most people dont have)!

I would actully pull the motor just to install the tranny - but thats just me!

no it should go on flush - if your pilot bushing isnt back all the way it will make it near impossable for it to go all the way flush onto the motor though.

Do not try and force the bolts on or you will end up breaking them

Remove the tranny - use your clutch alginment tool - cut about 1/2" off the end of the alignment tool and stick it into the pilot bushing - then use a hammer and knock the pilot bushing all the way back - the clutch alignment tool is too long for the SR - this is why you need to cut 1/2" off the end of it.

After doing this the tranny should go on easily

Alot of people use 12mm deep well socket to knock the pilot bushihng in - but its really easy to damage it this way - the clutch alignment tool is best - because as long as it will go into the pilot bushing the tranny input shaft will too and your good to go.
