![]() just wondering if there is a timing relay that needs to be unpluged to set timing or any emu device that needs to be messed with, similar to some american cars??
thanks p.s. timing marks are marked with dots instead of numbers anybody know the increment of those dots and which one is 20 degree. Last edited by phatsx; 02-06-2003 at 01:10 PM.. |

You just need to unplug the TPS sensor before starting the car. It is located right above the throttle body. The dots correspond to 5 degrees. The Orange dot is 0 degrees. So 20 degrees BTDC would be the 4th dot from that orange (or in some cases yellow) dot. Here are some helpful pics.

what happens if you adjust the timing and idling without unplugging the tps sensor?

The ECU changes the timing around when you are idling to account for different things. If you unplug the TPS, it goes back to base timing and doesn't change. It won't mess up anything to adjust timing without unplugging the TPS, but it might not be accurate. Besides...unplugging the TPS takes about 4 seconds.
