Resurfacing flywheel
I will be getting a new clutch within the next month or so, and the question of flywheel resurfacing has come up a few times.
I'm confused as to whether or not I "need" to resurface my flywheel when putting in a new clutch. Is it a "must" as when changing brake pads, or is it optional? How do you know when your flywheel can no longer be resurfaced? (too thin) or does it nearly 'never' get too thin? ![]() Thanks!

I got mine resurfaced when I put my Spec in. It only cost me like 35.00 to get it done and about a half hour of time. So I would say its well worth it to get it done.

telltale signs for flywheel resurfacing: blueing of the surface area or checking (yes it looks like checkerboards) slight grooves in the surface from worn out driven disc.
Ok , now if your clutch just starts slipping and you immediately pull it out and replace it you can get away with sanding your flywheel surface area and not have a problem. The thing is most people drive the car for a number of miles still after the clutch starts to slip. Sometimes they drag race or race period and seriously burn up the driven disc surface. which heats the flywheel causeing what I said above , blueing or checking or even grooving. AT this point resurfacing is a imperative! Don't do it and you will get clutch chatter and your clutch will wear out a lot sooner. thats the low down on flywheel resurfacing
