As most of you know, my speedo isn't working. I contacted the dealership, they'd charge me $900 for a new one. Now, Apexi has a performance meter that times 1/4mile, 0-60, 60-0, and speed. It only costs $120.00. Anyone know how they install? How hard is it to do, I'd like to know before I get one. Thanks boys and girls!

erm.. your speedo doesnt work? is it b/c of your gauges cluster/ wiring ?.. you are going to need to hook up the speedo line to the gauge so if the line is faulty your going to have to fix it anyways..

I think the lines are fine: it lights up and works for about five seconds when I first start my car, and if I'm rolling, the numbers start moving. Then it just shuts off.

Is there a difference, I know the JDM is air-pressure one, and I have a digital?

Wiring up the A'pexi Rev/Speed Meter is rather easy.  As long as you have a service manual, or have access to one.  You just have to know which wires to tap into.  That would definitely be a nice replacement for your HUD.  I've wired up one before, and I've also wired a V-AFC for someone.  Not hard if you know which wires you need to tap into.  I'm sure that the S13's ECU isn't much different than mine, and if anything, I know people who have the service manuals for S13's.  What year was your car again?

I don't know if anyone realizes, but she's got the HUD unit in her '91.  I don't think they're quite as cheap to fix.  If you really want the HUD back, I would look for one in a scrap yard, or just get an aftermarket HUD unit, like the Defi or something.  The A'pexi meter is cool, especially the new rev/speed meter.  It has a G-meter in it now, although you have to purchase the sensor separately and the unit is a bit more pricey than the older model.

I think I might go for that. The HUD would work if the speedo itself worked, but since that's not the case, I don't know what else to do but spend $120 on that thing. So if my speedo isn't working, this meter shouldn't work either.
