aftermarket short throw shifter wont come off?

quick question.. i have a aftermarket short throw shifter on my s13 that wont come off. problem is i cant get the red base to move at all so i can access the 4 bolts that sit beneath it.. im guessing there's an snap ring that holds it together?

that may be wrong. i know someone who had something similar to this setup. it had these half moon looking flat pieces of metal that bolted in under the plate on the left and right side, and once the 4 screws on the plate were tightened it secured the plate to the tranny. it was some super weird shit but it seemed to work like it was designed.

It should be 2 cresents with nuts in both ends. A allen bolt should fit from the top, screwing into the nuts on the cresents.

As you loosen the bolts, it should just slide off.

I'm guessing someone used glue at the base where it makes contact with the baseplate neck because it wasn't as tight as it should be.

I JUST sold my C's to Mano, and it was almost exact, except the color.

you could also maybe loosen the oem shifter plate by going under the car and using an open ended wrench to access the 6 bolts, maybe that'll give you more room to figure out what's going on?

I was thinking the same thing in a worse case scenario.

I had a cheap-o Ebay short shifter that had the crescent moon plates...they rattled all the time so I actually put a layer of silicone gasket maker in there to hold them still (unsafe crappy parts). But when I went to put in my B&M shifter the plates still popped out with a little bit of force (hammer and a flat head )

try using a heatgun or go out for a hard drive (to warm up the tranny) before u try to beat on it and rip it off... should soften up the glue if there is any...

I know this is an old thread, but im having the exact same problem. That just makes me think the glue idea is a bit less likely (unless 2 people out there are that Fing stupid).

Ima go see if there is a Clip underneath the plate or something.

When you rip that shit off with a BFH, get a B&M. You won't regret it.
