34mm rad hose adaptor npt fitting Q

I got 2 of those rad hose adaptors for my breather tank setup. However the 1/8th npt fittings arent threading in all the way - maybe 1/2 if even. Its a very very tight fit, as if im crossthreading, however ive tried about 4 different fitting styles and all are the same.

Isnt the NPT fittings supposed to be a looser fit, because you have to use teflon tape? I couldnt even use thread locker because the fit is so tight. I even snapped a fitting half way in, which required me to order another 34mm rad hose adaptor.

No...NPT is a tight fight, it's tapered.

It get's tighter as you turn it...so there's no need for teflon tape or anything.

Sweet, is there a general torque setting for it? I think I snapped the other fitting at about 15lbs.

Hand tight should be more than enough.

What do you use teflon tape on? Teflon tape (PTFE) is designed for pipe thread (NPT) . You can get away without using teflon tape on pipe but I have had much better luck when using teflon to eliminate leaks. Thread seal tape - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also when tapping NPT threads the general rule I have always gone by is to run the tap in 2/3 way. So you should never run up the fitting until its out of threads.

what hose adapter are u using? greddy sard? and are u using a provided fitting or did u just get a NPT fitting?

if you are using a Jap brand (greddy sard etc) then the hole is not NPT it BSPT or PT, they are a little different from NPT.
