ca18det...will run but will not go over 2k rpms.

Ok, i know that means it is in limp mode or safety mode as some call it. Ill start with the known problems. I have no maf, i know this would cause that symptom. I have the ca18det harness and ecu. The gauges do not work and the check engine light flashs when running and the brake light is on( on the dash lights). I have 3 maf, stock ca18det, z32, and q45. There is no connector on the wire harness for any of them. I dont know if they are good or not. I cant find any test values for them. The stock ca harness has 5 wires for the maf. I know ppl have done the z32 swap and i tried on mine, but same problems. I got the car in this way and knew it was gonna be a project, doesnt bother me.

So, my thoughts are to just make my own harness or buy a new one from other 240sx cars or swaps. I also was wondering if going with a speed density or map sensor would be a possibility, that way i dont have to deal with putting a maf on it.

You have options, find a stock MAF pigtail and wire in the stock CA MAF. Find a z32 pigtail, wire it up but you will have to re-tune the motor for the ECU to proper receive the signal and thus run the car.

For you starting out diagnosis the car, focus on getting it to stock and running right then go from there.

You will definatly not rev over 2k with out a MAF.

Thank you for some of the info. Thought id mention that this is my first nissan. Im not a nissan guy, mostly honda, dsm and toyota. Thats what everyone i know has and i am a toyota tech.

Ya, I want to get it running stock first too. The car already has a tubular manifold and a bigger turbo, i believe off a red top sr. I have the stock manifold and turbo, but lots of shaft play. I dont care about obscene amounts of power yet, wanna just get used to driving the car. Do you know of somewhere to get a wiring diagram at all? That way i can get my gauges working too. The problem with getting pigtails for the maf is that i dont know if those maf sensors are good. So if i hook one up and still runs the same, i dont wanna start chasing gremlins elsewhere and it still being that way bc of a bad maf. Who knows, i could have a bad ecu too?? When i got the car, the q45 maf was ghetto wired up. Still ran the same tho with that on or off the car. There is also suspension problems, but i can deal with that later.
