how much abuse can a s13 take??
so i recently bought a s13 on the cheap, with plans of just makin it a daily for me to get back an forth to work reliably. so i go to replace the bent ass tension rod an bolt the rear of it up first, an the front where it bolts up right under the radiator has been pushed back about 3 inches. it doesn't seem bent, just broke the welds away from the frame.
so the question is, can i just pull this out, weld it back up, an be good?? im going to try this route anyways, just wanting some piece of mind that this will be alright. also how would i know if my frame is bad, bent or tweaked?? |

damn thats way to pushed back what the hell did the other owner run over to take the welds out of the lower rad support and bend the tension rod?
Try tack welding it back to the frame and see if you can get it back aligned then if its good. sticth weld the sucka!!! call it a day. goodluck

they popped a curb. found out through someone else who knew the owner that he did some pissed off drifting. yeah, its my dumbass mistake for not inspecting it more closely. but 800 for a running s13, 650 after i sold off the overfenders that were on it for 150, couldn't complain

bring it to a bodyshop and have them check the frame and pull it out for you, it shouldn't cost too much.

100 bucks don't seem bad..... i probably pull it out enough to bolt it back up, no welds, then drive it about the mile or so up to a body shop near here. i used to hang out with the owners son when we were in high school, maybe he will remember me an hook me up. i also hung out with his daughter..... hopefully he wont remember that tho, lol

Is it just me or are those fans on the wrong side of the radiator?!?
Maybe they're air "blowers" instead of air "pullers"? Either way, isn't that just a bad design? I would think the fans are most efficient on the engine bay side, pulling air through the radiator. But hey I'm 31....old. What do I know.

That's pretty bad. I had the welds pop on my core support from track usage. There are only 3-4 little spot welds on each side holding it together, so it doesn't exactly take much. I just pulled the rails together and had a buddy weld it all up. Still holding good, but I put some aircraft rivets in there just for extra insurance.
Although hitting a curb probably bent stuff enough where I'd get a body shop to put it on a frame machine. I seriously doubt it'd be only $100, especially if any welding is required. I'd say you're looking at $300ish to make sure it's all squared up and then get it welded back together.
