AEM EMS v2 is good im running it now. haltech is good too lots of buddys are running it. i would honestly say stay away from greddy or any of the other japanese engine management. my OPINION on this is basically when you run into a error all the documents are in a different language. i had the greddy blue and stand alone enginemanagement systems. trying to wire that up and trying to find documentationin english was a pain in the ass.

only problem with the AEM lately is that units are coming dead from the box and faulty, stick with Haltech (my personal favorite), some guys like to run canned tunes or ROM tunes or whatever they like to call it but I personally stay away from them

Depends on what you are planning on doing with the car?

If it's going to be a monster then go with something that's worth the money HALTECH

but if you're planning on pushing no more than 400 WHP and keep things stock-ish then no need to fork out that much cash and go with something cheaper such as AEM or Power FC

Other options include Nistune

It all comes down to who tunes the engine, pick your tuner first and then use what he is most skilled at since you are not the one tuning it

+1 for AEM EMS V2, and I personally would'nt worry about them coming in dead/faulty, it's not like you don't get a warrenty when you buy it so they will replace it if it was faulty.

I'm running nismotronic. I go in for a full tune in 2 weeks. The system is user friendly but I have no idea what I'm doing with tuning and refuse to mess with anything.

I have a rs enthalpy ecu now.. Not happy with it. I can get on the car and slide a bit but as soon as i get off it fast it seems to overload on fuel or go into limp mode i cant pinpoint what it is yet. I was thinking of going to Nate at tpg tuning but it seems all the people around here are either mostly tuning hondas, subarus, or dsms.

i wouldn't go with a ROM tune without some sort of device to "fine tune" like a SAFC.
these guys are tuning your car from hundreds if not thousands of miles away, of course it isn't going to be perfect.

that said, if you're looking for a stock-ish setup i would go for a mail order ROM tune like nistune or JWT with a SAFC.
if you have money to drop on a top-mount T3 setup with big injectors and cams, you better have the money to drop on full standalone+tune.

I get my ROM Tune custom made for me on the dyno. Best of both worlds. Custom dyno tune quality... ROM tune price. Paid $500 for everything. ECU socketing, tune, and dyno time.

My tuner is Steve @ Home-PSI PROFORMANCE

I just scored a PowerFC for a decent price, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. RBs are somewhat limited when it comes to standalones and I wasn't crazy about spending $2k+ for engine management, especially when it's going to be mostly stock for now.

I am having Ash from Ash-Spec do my ROM tune, but his shop is literally 2 minutes from my house so I am getting it dyno/tuned on location with me there. He specializes in Z-cars, but was all about tuning my built KA-R. STAY AWAY FROM EMANCE!!!! BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY THAT I HAVE EVER SPENT!!! Jason is a nice guy, but he needs to get his shit together!

what is your setup? details help, parts and brands. It may not be the tune, it maybe mechanical or electrical also. The worst part about offering tuning to 240 customers is 60-70% of them bring in a car that is mechanical not even ready to see the rollers and get tuned. That is the first step in getting the car tuned, make sure everything is properly setup and there are no issues there.

Jon

to add to this tune discussion from what I said earlier, this statement is true for all engines

Not a single engine are alike, even if it's the smallest each engine is different, to use an analogy that might be a stretch, look at the human DNA we are 99.9% alike yet so different.

That is why I am firm believer of a good tune via tuner, car, and dyno and none of that boxed canned tune stuff that someone that is miles away is doing for your car because they do not know what is the real condition of it

Some are happy with their canned tunes but to unlock the true potential of your engine you know what to do
