I have 2 rattles on my Bone stock Zenki S14 with 175k miles. I have located them, and the first rattle seems to be comming from the engine fan. Im wondering if it could be the belts, or the fan itself. The rattle sounds like a minor hissing. The second rattle is comming from the tranny. Every time i hit 2k rpm it rattles and then goes away, then comes back when i hit 3k rpm and goes away. It sounds like a loose peice of metal being vibrated. Im thinking its the heatshield. Any other ideas? Thanx in advance.

Hey, i also have a s14 zenki and have similar rattles as you described. Its been there for awhile now and still cant find out for sure what it might be. So far i heard that its the upper guides next to the timing chain that got loose and rattles against the chain. But i hope someone can find other solutions to this problem.

Teh second rattle is probably the heatshield on your downpipe. If you take it off it should go away

I have a downpipe? I not turbocharged. I still have the KA.

i got 3 rattles in my trunk...fukn annoying... ill fix it later

look under your car man look for loose things around the exhuast pipes. i had the same problem it was a loose heat shield.

whats so hard about fixing that? open up the valve cover take the first one out. take off dist, open up the timing cover and take the second one out. its like a 30 minute job. the timing chain is scraping against that guide leaving little metal bits in your engine. stop being lazy and fix it. any other rattle just stand around ur car as someone revs on the engine and identify where its coming from. too many things get loose on the car for anyone to say for sure wheres its coming from over the internet.

Not true. There's so many of us driving the same cars, that we have alot of the same problems. And it never hurts to listen to someone's input. It can save you alot of troubleshooting time. Especially when all these problems are very common. This forum has been a livesaver for me on many occasions.

For example, the info you just gave on how to remove the chain guides, I've been putting that off for months, now I've got the means to finally fix it.

dream : damnit my car must be 'special' then. even my rear view mirror rattles. i also have wires behind my head unit that rattle. lol.

Don't get me wrong, there ARE alot of rattles to ANY car when you start modifying things like exhausts, removing trunk interior, installing intakes, modifying your suspension (biggest culprit). Hell I've had to remove my door panels and place foam all over the place cause the damn things were rattling from my suspension mods. My trunk used to rattle form putting my spoiler on, that's just a couple cases.

My rear view vibrates bad when I floor it, but it doesn't rattle......yet.
