Fan shroud

So basically I heard a very disturbing noise. Got out of my 240 and was hearing a knocking noise. A very bad one. It took my a few minutes and I finally saw that my fan was slicing my fan shroud. Now my shroud is completely fucked. Can I drive without one or do I need a shroud

What do you think the fan shroud does?

You don't need one....but your cooling system is basically worthless now. I would look into either A) replacing the fan shroud or B) installing electric fans. Your mechanical fan is better than most electric fan setups so i would suggest replacing the fan shroud.

You could probably squeak by without a fan shroud for some time if this is your daily, but I would keep an eye on your temp gauge and avoid sitting still and idling. Your only real form of cooling is your heater core fan and any wind passing through the radiator fins when you're moving.

You're new around here, but next time post these type of small questions in this thread:

Ive seen people run without a shroud for years on some swaps. I would never take the chance because a shroud is so cheap, but it can be done...

Ok first of all why is your fan hitting your shroud? I'd fix/look into that first.second the point of the shroud is to direct the air into the radiator to help cooling.taking it off will lower the radiators efficiency to cool your coolant so you could run into overheating problems.but yes you can drive without it, just watch your temp gauge and fix it ASAP or get rid of the clutch fan/shroud setup and go with electric fans.

If you are in alot of stop and go traffic (or order via drive thru alot) youll need a shroud or else youll see your temps shoot up without a shroud.

I drove without a fan shroud in Florida/Georgia summers. You will be fine. I would replace it with Altima electric fans and you should be good to go.

I replaced my radiator with a Koyo a few months back, and my shroud had shitty fitment so I left it off. My thermo always has play but never over heated my CA18DET.

See... the reason most people dont run mechanical clutch fans is because they eat away at the car.

It starts with the shroud, then it will eat up your radiator. Then the AC condenser, then the intercooler.

If you dont remove the clutch fan, it will eventually saw through the entire front end and possibly other cars.

Seriously.
