![]() My car recently started smoking out the exhaust, when it gets warm. Im guessing its either the turbo or vavle seals? It used to just do it occasionaly, now the smoke is getting worse and most constant. How can i pin point my problem? I dont really have the money to be guessing around. Thanks

is it extremly recent to the installation of said parts? companies use oil's on tubing so they can mandrel bend it, might be that. if not what color is the smoke??

oh no, its not just burn off. Its a bluish white color smoke smells like oil sometimes, then some times its got a weird smell, id say close to something like a burnt steak on the grill. I mean its starting to smoke so bad i normally turn it off at stop lights because its embarassing.

you could try a compression test to see how everythings sealing in the combustion chamber. im not too familiar with sr's, are the taka lines new oil lines? if so, what size?

If it was the valve stem seals they should stop smoking once the car warms up. If the turbo is leaking it would start smoking when the car gets warm.

how in the hell could a bad radiator cap cause smoke out the exhaust? Its a sealed system. Maybe you werent building up pressure it was getting a little hotter than normal and burning something? I wish i had little problems. My car is all messed up

any chance the increased flow from the new lines (if any) could have just blown already dying seals? you already had the motor running before this stuff and all was well? i know the z31 t3's have problems with higher oil flow...so just wondering.

I disagree about the vavle seats they will stop smoking only when you are Driving at idle the smoke will pour. I posted this in another thread. Just reduilt the vavle train and cleaned the head and the exhaust ports and the problem went away. Now with the turbo yeah as soon as the car warms up it will start smoking and "Most" of the time when you have a bad seal the oil will pour into your exhaust housing and just smoke like hell.

yeah turbo that is definately the turbo. Well rip it apart since it is already jacked remove ALL the oil from every part with carb cleaner pull your the housing apart clean out all the carbon until you get to the center cartridge and clean the seats you probably have and excessive amount of carbon keeping your oil seals from seating. IF you have an excessive amount of (IN/OUT) play in the (bearing)(SHAFT) BEFORE you rip everything apart then it might be a waste of time. Clean it all out let it dry for about 6 hours or so....that way you can see there is no oil present....Then clean out your intercooler, front pipe, and anyother pipe that was contaminated (sp?) with oil make sure there is no oil at all in you hot side piping and then reassymble the turbo and put it back in the car and start it let it run for a while and see the results if you oil seals just were not seated because of carbon then it should not smoke if the bearings were bad then well you will have to buy another turbine. It is really worth it to try because why spend $600 or even $300 on a new turbo when you might jsut have something minor wrong with it. it is a bit of a hassel but oh well you still have that $600 or whatever you would spend on a new turbo in your pocket if it was that small of a problem.

if i attempt to rebuild this turbo myself, how do i clock it right? Is all of this stuff gonna be pretty simple? Im pretty good at taking stuff apart and putting it back how i found it. Plus if i get down to it and need new seals, clips, whatever where can i find a rebuild kit?
