Problem with reverse lights not coming on

Hello, I have an 89 Hatch that has a broken old reverse light sensor. I replaced it but nothing happened. When I bought it, I tested it and the reverse light was still on. But when installed, the light does not come on. Does anyone know what the cause is? Thank

check the light bulb contacts.
I was chasing my tail trouble-shooting why the left turn signal on my s14 wasn't working. I chased the electrical circuit, connector/plugs fuse, stalk switch, wiring etc.

turned out to be the bulb contacts, I cleaned them out thoroughly and it works just fine.

Could be also reverse switch on the transmission

With the car off and parking brake engaged, manually reach behind the taillight assembly and remove the reverse light bulb. Inspect the bulb for any burnt-out filament. You can also try swapping the reverse light bulb with another working bulb to see if it illuminates when placed in the reverse light socket.
