God damn, was reading an article on overboost about Import Revolution in Houston, and saw this SR-powered sil-80...the article didn't say much, but it did say it was a "fully built SR20DET with Jun internals" and a "big HKS turbo"...just wondering if anyone knew specifics, i.e. parts used, size of turbo, rwhp and quarter mile.

Thats a big fuckin turbo...

Don't know what a sil-80 is!?

... kidding.... it's very simple actually, and when you realize what it is, you'll be slapping your foreheads (too).

Sil- Silvia
80- 180sx.

it's a silvia front end attached to a 180sx rear, that is to say, a traditional flat-nose headlight (3-projector and fogs) and bumper, connected to the fastback rear.

the 240sx we have here came in two forms, coupe and fastback, whereas in Japan they were different models w/ different front ends. The fastback we have here was the 180sx there, while the coupe we have would be a one-via (one from 180 and via from silvia) in Japan because it's got a 180sx nose on a silvia (coupe) rear.

That was sort of a bad explaination, but it's quite simple, really!

hmmm since I put that much up, I might as well explain that Nissan didn't originally have a sil-80 model designation, rather it came about through drifters crashing their 180sxs and putting the silvia front ends on simply because they were cheaper...

This 'fad' caught on, and eventually got popular enough for Nissan to release a sil-80 model, which had various little tweaks for a little more HP (different cams, I think) and to make it even more tail happy than the 180sx. These were however manufactured in a very small number, and nowadays are near impossible to find.

Sil-80s are much, MUCH prettier than the One-Vias that we have here in the states, which are, if you don't mind me saying, quite ugly.

FWIW the few 180s with S15 fronts are called, more appropriately, strawberry faces. That's because "15" and "Strawberry" in japanese sound alike.

O BTW are Tomei and JUN to different companies or are they liek partners, cause the engine in that pic has a blue top, and so do the Tomei engines, while JUN has liek green or yellow (sumthin liek that). Or was the valve cover just painted to match the car.

They are different companies. They just painted it to go along with the paint scheme of the car. JUNs companies' colors are Yellow and Green and Tomei's is blue, that could tell you where the color schemes actually came from.

That's Boostfactor.com's sileighty. If you want specifics on the car they're the ones to ask. They also started a thread a couple of days ago on Freshalloy discussing the car.

I saw that car up close last weekend. I didn't even know BoostFactor was gonna be there, I talked to the guy for a bit, he was cool. I swear I looked at that car for like an hour. There was also another guy there from Dallas and I spoke with him. He had an S14 w/SR20DET. Both nice cars. I believe the Sil80 wasn't even running at the time although he mentioned running in San Antonio real soon pushing 10's.....so I guess its a drag car....

The Sil80/Sil-80/SilEighty/whatever you want to call it was never produced by Nissan. The reason it is almost impossible to find one now is cause it is impossible to find one (at least one mabe by Nissan) as they don't exist. Some people have done the conversions (I'll soon be added to that list), but as far as a factory produced car it doesn't exist, and never has existed. The reason that many SIl80s have slightly higher power than a stock S13 Silvia Ks is that most people change a few parts (exhaust, high flow cat/test pipe, BOV, FMIC, etc.) when they swap in the engines. There is no need to be misinforming every one.

If you still think that the car was made by Nissan I invite you to find some proof. Some random persons website doen't count as proof. I could go and make a website saying that Nissan is run by a bunch of giant ants from mars, and they produce every car ever built throught their subsidiarys like GM, Diamler-Chrystler, and VAG, but everyone knows thats not true.

Wow sr20vet, you are way off.. maybe you are the one misinformed

Nissan of Japan did produce the sil-80. A contact in Japan informed my they produced about 500 cars, but it was never mass produced. I didn't ask about the engine, but the suspension was upgraded for the sil80s. Also on the side windows where it would normally say 180sx, it CLEARLY says sil80.

I know it was produced, so how about you give me info it wasn't sr20vet.

I also talked to the owner at Import Revolution. He said that the car was running something like 440 HP, 540HP on the nitrous. And yeah, he was from Boost Factor in Irving...

well all any of you have to do is find a website that shows one and has some info im not sure if there is a sil80 but this is off of Boostfactor.com "A Sileighty is slang for a hybrid vehicle using parts from a Silvia and 180SX - 'Sil-eighty.'"

and it sounds odd... nissan making a car called the "sil80" that doesn't sound right...

I've seen nissan brochures with the Sil80 in it. However it was not produced by Nissan. It was Commisioned by nissan to be produced by a second party. Thats why there was a limited production.

Thats what came from an earlier debate I read/participated in a while back. Of course I can't remember where that was. I wish I had saved the Pictures though.
