Ghetto Exaust Pre-Install Pics!

well i was bored, so here it is, what I have going on in the spring

the high flow cat is missing cause there are large pipes attached to it from the car it came off of since it was slightly used

I bought the header for $50 from a friend who had a 240 but totalled it before he installed them. That started my "ghetto" project, using cheap (but decent) parts.

Muffler- $40
"Resonator" - $30
Slightly Used Cat - $20
Tip- $60
1 Can black engine paint with ceramic- $6
new manifold studs, bolts, gasket- $about 40

and the install and thats it!

ill be posting before and after sound clips in spring when its installed

feedback?

(yes I know its cheap stuff, and i dont care, that was the point)

That tip fills the OEM cutout of the bumper almost PERFECT and its going to be flush and discreet

yep, glass pack resonator and glass pack muffler!

wonder what it will sound like......
The tip was a bit of money but i like how it totally fills the shape in the bumper and not only that but it can be mounted flush with very little gap around it, i cant wait to see it on the car

there is a resonator just after the header where the cat would go (cause the cat isnt in that pic)

the resonator is to help mellow and quiet the sound a bit

yes, i really want the car to be quiet as possible, even if i sacrifice a little bit of power..I prefer that quiet but distinct sound any day.

The muffler is chambered and flows better than stock still, shouldnt be too loud. I dont want it to sound like every other ricey car you hear.
Once i cut off my cat for like 2 days cause the reduction in "backpressure" ruined my low end- top end pull is nice but i like the low end torque on the KA engine so im not trying to eleminate the restriction totally. Apparently that "long tube" header will loose some low end but whatever

nightwalker- the rest of it as in the plumbing? Im going to have a mechanic friend install everything and do the extra plumbing, is that what you mean?

Maybe its just me,but it seems like something isn't matching up here. I've got a glasspack muffler,OEM exhaust mani, high flow cat and no 'resonator' . I am definitely loud as a mofo. You can hear me from at least 2+ blocks away,no joke.

i can play with it if its too loud- But a cat, resonator and muffler should be enough to quiit it down
Thats the way to go if you want it quiet apparently, maybe not glasspack in particular but having all those pieces present. Point is it HAS a resonator (which is pretty big), a cat (a real one, not a test pipe) AND the muffler isnt a straight through setup. This on a 4 banger engine should prove fairly quiet i think. The glasspack stuff wasnt for sound effects either- its just cheaper.

is your muffler chambered?

^yea, haha. I was wondering how that 350z thing would work.

I always thought glasspack mufflers and stuff sound like ass anyway.

Well,I generally think so too,but I got such a steal on mine and I wanted her to be loud so I decided to give it a shot,I had a spare muffler sitting around in case it sounded like shit. I've gotten quite a few random complements about how great she sounds. I will say that it sounds extremely raspy/terrible until the engine is completely warmed up,and I do mean at full operation tempurature.

Anyway, that 'ghetto' exhaust should at least look unqique with that crazy tip

350Z muffler was a few inches too wide and a few inches too long

I could have done it if i could grind a few things away a bit maybe.....too much hassle when all was said and done....someday maybe
