check engine lite goes crzy, ECU wont flash codes, can anyone help??

ok, 95 sr into a 96 chassis,
car runs great, wiring was done professionally, etc etc.
heres the problem.

my check engine lite comes on from time to time but it doesnt stay on, it just flashes, it has no sort of pattern to its flashing, just once in a while itll come on and flash, 5 long 10 short 1 really long 4 short 1 realllllllly long one 13 short, 5 long, u see what im saying? its not flashing any sort of code. once i actually started writing on a paper using dash and dots and what not, and after about 3 minutes of writing i checked the paper and it made no sense.

furthermore, my ECU wont flash any codes. ive tried ot manually flash it , aswell as use a code reader and code reader says LINK ERROR.

any idea what could cause this?

one more thing is that my knock sensor isnt currently installed, im ordering a new one as we speak but it isnt currently in the car. i would think that would just make the ecu flash a knock sensor code tho, not make it go haywire.

anyways, any ideas of what it could be let me know. btw wiring was done by a guy whos worked on SRs for years and is quite trustworthy.
