![]() I tried searching everything i could think of, but couldn't find the DIY guide to installing 10s in the backseat, behind the interior panels. i have someone who's willing to trade me 2 10s for my 12, and im sick of having no trunk space so i want to try out this mod. any help would be greatly appreciated.

im not too familiar with the s14 interior/trunk but i found a nice idea even though it wasnt done as clean as i would like it but the idea was there!! The only draw back for you is that its for an s13! Just thought id put this idea out and it might give you an idea of something else. this set up is in the trunk but very little space is lost!http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...392404_118.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...392404_119.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...392404_120.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...392404_121.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...392404_122.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...392404_123.jpg

I've seen a thread somwhere where a guy put subs in the rear panels by the back seat. It was a lot of custom work, and it made the body panels rattle. I built an enclosure for my S14 that fits on the cargo shelf between the backseat and trunk. I wanted to fit 2 8" subs, but didn't have enough room and settled for just 1. The problem that I ran into was interference with the trunk hinges and bars. The length of the box is just short of the rear speakers. I ended up with only 0.5 CU FT of volume. It sounds good at normal volumes, but will "bottom out" if I crank it up. I really need to make it bigger by building a more irregular shape to extend it under the rear speakers and fill in more of the area. My Amp is mounted vertically by the jack with just enough room to get the jack when needed. I did a good job of saving trunk space and made a big improvement on my stereo's bass response. I don't need much 'cus I listen to heavy metal. This would not be a good option if you want "war drums" that anounce your presence to the hood.

Right now I am working on a fiberglass mold right now that will attack to the trunk and cut some holes into the carpet in the trunk and lay 2 10's and then recarpet the trunk to hide any gaps and place some Subwoofer grilles to top off the seams between the speakers and the carpet and protect the subs some what from trunk junk. if you dont install a rear strut bar then the area where one would lay over would be great to place them, or along the sides or back. *shrugs* just some ideas you can always use a box instead of fiberglass if you cant go high dollar

if i had CAD i'd show you my design i'm currently working on. it invcorporates a rear seat delete into the mix. i might mount the subs under the rear plastic panels. they're only 8" subs do you guys think they'd be okay under there? i haven't looked at that area much.

I was thinking of doing the same thing a while agow.. but I was talking to a friend of mine that did competitions and built boxes.. he was sayin that it wasnt a good idea to place the subs so they fire at eachother becouse it will lessen the volume and distort the sound. while it still could be better then what you wanted,.. it isnt what you payed for equipment wise.
I am curently working on a setup of mounting 3 8's in the passthrew with a custom removable box for when I want to save some weight on the autoX course. I customized a ebay rear STB to mount toward the back of the passthrew almost touching the trunk hinges. I beleave I will be close to the 1 or 0.75cuft per sub they ask for ( I cant remember exactly ) I was goinna use that space behind the panneling to mount my amps and keep all that hidden with alot of airflow. some of you might be thinking I am insane.. but autoX tires are big and I need the the trunk space for tools and tire,.. and the back seat for tires and I didnt wanna have to cary my box up 3 floors along with the tires back down every time I raced. |

I pulled everything out of my 98 to do this, I got the idea from the website already mentioned from 240sx.org. Once I got it all pulled apart, I decided not to do it because the area behind the panel would not be really feasible to seal properly. I guess you could use a free-air sub, but I was afraid that there would be air movement noise from all of the open areas. Behind the panel, it runs above the wheelwell all the way into the trunk, and etc. I just didn't see any way to seal it all up properly. My IDQDVC's aren't rated for any free-air use so I just decided to go old school with a box in the trunk.
Oh well..... |

What size components do you have up front? i want to put the infinity kappa components set up front on my 92 coupe, but i was told the 6.5" are a lil too big unless i do a lot of trimming and custom work. dont they have a 5.25" component set as well? I already have the kappa coaxials in the rear deck lid. I also have a Kenwood excelon deck. my question is where did you install your tweeters? on the door? |

hey michael if you put a bit of plexi and drill some holes into the plexi and the place the plexi over your sub and amps you can then still use the trunk... just dont let any fluids roll around back there. heck after you put in the plexi u can put in some carpet *just pokes lots of small holes where the sub will be covered* and you will have a "sleeper" look
just my opinion but sleeper style/ still being able to use your truck space = smart
