Ok im saving for coilovers , Help me out with opinions !

I guess ill just save up for some coilovers and get it done all at once.
I did some research and came up with a few brands that i like . If you know anything about anyone of these let me know if they are good or not and also if there are any other brands that i dont list add them on too.
I dont want some crazy stiff setup as this is a daily driver so keep that in mind.

-SPL kts- $1100 I like the inverted shock design and the fact that you can replace all the shocks for $550 instead of rebuilding them.

-TIEN HE (or the new drift ones) - ($ ?)They seem pretty good.

-MEGAN RACING- $900 Looks like a good coilover setup . If you dont know about then heres a big write up http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...ighlight=megan

-SILK ROADS-$1400 - I have heard they are good.

See that is a factor. I dont like the fact that if a shock blows out i have to buy 4 brand new coilovers. To me that is stupid.

you dont have to buy all 4, you can just buy one. or if you buy teins you can send them out for rebuilding. i think tein is fairly trustworthy at this stage in the game but i sill wouldnt want to be the test rat for the new drift coils unless i got them for cheap

Needing a dremel for new coilovers = not cool><. <<---Edit:reference to the megan write up. By the way, as a note, my buddy bought a set of JIC's for his S2k, and it didnt have brackets for the brake lines>< stuff was just dangling...

personally i went to the tein RA's for a few hundred more than the HE's. yes i realize they are a little too stiff for certain applications, but the 10/8 spring rate(compared to the 8/6) sounded better to me. Out of personal experience i like to reduce body roll with spring rather than bar, but thats just me. as far as the ride, 10/8 is a little too hard for some, but ok for me, body roll almost eliminated. ride isnt too rough, but undulations on the freeway at low speeds are somewhat nauseating. On the Hill... thats where its really nice, the low-piston-speed valving is really nice, very balanced for the cars weight. huge elevation changes around switchbacks are a little scary though. In the rain its not that bad, just gotta remember theres no rear squat anymore so throttle gotta come on gentle, and understeering under heavy braking in the rain is much more pronounced.

.02:=My apologies, im bored, and my diff hasnt arrived yet so im rambling.
i always seem to add in my .02, but thats because if u are still reading by this time my opinion seems to matter so ill go on, Every coilover setup i have ever seen in a car is decently/well balanced. whether its 32 way or 3 way adjustable, adjustment range is the same, just more or less clicks.
so honestly what swayed me to the RA's were the pillow ball mounts, basically a shorter setup which reduces wheel droop, helper springs are nice when driving on crappy roads(though still clacky), spring rate(the valving was made for the spring rate that i wanted) and the fact that the front strut tube(dont laugh at my terminology ...the shiny part... hahah) is huge, like 50mm diameter huge. and as we all know our front strut is basically very integral to front suspension geometry(camber and caster affected by the flex of the strut). And not but not least, the fact that they are rebuidable in america, no sending to japan, California RMA department^^.
downsides to RA's is that its a little stiff and bouncy, not edfc compatable, adjuster for front is bottom of tube, and rear adjuster is really long(which sometimes touches the carpet in the back(it misses the access hole).

im pretty sure youll have fun with whatever u choose. Sorry so long winded

Tanabe DD

they fucking rule
awesome coilover. ive tried lots of coilovesr and these are incredible. and 10/8 kg. perfect
well made, great design, very comfy for street yet still firm. each dampen click is a VERY notciable difference (not like tein HE gayness) and just overall....so nice

ive tired kei office (my second choice), m yfriend has the GR=6 on his car, ive tried JIC FLTA2, Tein HE, HKS, havent done SPl yet, maybe on my s13 i will

but the DDs...amazing! love them

Last I checked (~6 months ago), the R series shocks are sent back to Japan for rebuild, and the quote I got for the rebuild is $600 for 4 shocks :/

that sux, my local shop said they send it to a shop in cali thats 2 blocks from Tein USA, and Tein USA rebuilds everything... I was told all RA's needed to be special Ordered from the motherland, Rebuilding was just shipping to cali and have em rebuilt in 1-2 months.

well its good i know and ill have to check on that, maybe ill save from shipping from HI >> CA, then needing to ship from CA>> Japan ><

1-2 months to rebuild tien shocks !? ?! !?!?

That is some serious down time. Ok i guess that really makes me lean towards the SPL kts coilovers, you can get new shocks for $550 no downtime. They also sport an inverted shock design just like kei office.

As long as nobody has had any bad experiences with SPL i think its the obvious choice at this point.

u have to understand i live in hawaii, shipping alone takes a month round trip, so 1-2 months total is normal here, well imo. keep your stock stuff so if u ever do blow one up u can go back and have 0 down time.

inverted design... i think most systems these days are inverted, including teins... someone correct me if im talking out of my a$$ but i think my RA's were inverted.

Go TEIN all the way, I'm running HE's on my S14 and they've done me nothing but good so far, had them for over a year now no issues.

OK 2 major questions left i guess

1-how much is it to rebuild a tien shock or a whole set?

2-What is the major advantage of the inverted design shocks? To be honest all i know is that kei office does theirs that way so figured it to be better but im not shure why.
