Installed a CD player and I replaced my antenna with a short antenna that is only 3 inches or so tall. I think that it looks great. CD sounds great! I even installed according to directions......lol It sounds like crap. AM doesn't come in, and I can't live without my sports radio. FM is ok, but kinda static. When I put my hand on the it, it works perfect! Pull it away just a couple of inches and it goes to hell. Oh yeah, on the AM side, I hear clicking when the turn signal and defrost is on... help. I have tried everything that I can think of. Nothing helps! Thanks for your help!

The clicking you hear is likely interference because of a bad ground or shielding over the antenna cable or connectors.
Your holding the amtenna makes you part of the amtenna itself, tiny little antenna and big body make for some great FM sports hightlights.

I hear some peole have used the antenna that goes around either the fron or back window on the inside with good results. Well hidden and not tacky looking.
My $0.02 worth!

This is pissing me off.
I am sure that the problem is where I spliced the new antenna wire into the old wire going to the back of the cd player. Now what am i suppost to use to connect the two? I stripped the cable to the copper wire on both ends and used a butt splice.(crimp connector) That's the only thing that I can think of that I rigged. Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks!

holy crap dude, that totally brings back memories of being an install tech. we had so many people come in with stolen radios that these theives actually cut the wires in the back including the antenna. so now nice little old me has to quote this dude $30 extra to install his radio, and he wants to know why....I say because I have to rewire the antenna, and he replies with something similar to, "oh."
Btw the best way to rewire an antenna is to strip back the outside of the coaxial and and then strip back the single strand inside. then using loads of concentration and patience, solder the two single strands together, and do the same with the outer wire. Now tape each section up separately and voila...a new antenna. I hope thats what you were asking, cuz that took me a long damn time to type out!
Also you could get a VW internal amplified antenna, so you can remove the antenna completely...I can't wait to do it myself!!

that's exactly what I was getting at,thanks. The outer wire was some sort of mesh, are you talking about soldering that together too? I did a lot of that stuff, soldering, in the Air Force.BTW I bet that one of those guys stole thier radios from my old RX-7. So easy to break into.

Well thanks!
