ka24de... started twice, won't hold idle

so, i finally got a lull in school and went out to the car

we started screwing around with the timing trying to get it started

it started twice but wouldnt hold idle, with the dist rotated all one way. off by a tooth i think.

we retimed it, but by then we had cranked it so many times the damn battery box was dead and we had to call it a day.

q#1 - idle speed adjustment screw. i don't care if it idles at 2000 rpms, as long as it idles so i can do a preliminary timing. which way to open it up? i'm guessing counterclockwise, but its always good to ask.

q#2 - aligning the distributor. 3 marks on the dist shaft; yellow, mark one and a big mark at the top. one mark at the base of the shaft (the part that doesnt spin); you line up the big mark at the top with the mark on the shaft, according to the FSM. now my question is... do you account for that when you insert the distributor; so that it lines up to that position when it turns during insertion; or do you just line it up and then stick it in like that and let the rotor spin where it wants to (i.e. nissan was smart enough to plan for it)?
