You are wrong there my friend.... Infiniti (Nissans Luxury class in U.S.) was going to have an SR20DET, but downgraded to the SR20DE for..well.. to make money...basically.... However, The SR20DE and SR20DET are very similar in strength with only a few differences related to strengthing and cooling for the turbo. The basic block and head are the exact same and are both very strong. This is why SR20DE's (which power FWD cars ![]() ![]() I wonder if it's possible to put an SR20DE into an RPS13 and pass emissions...wow I would love that....

With rolling smog machines, and mobile dynos, it's good reason to be paranoid in California these days. I've heard of SR20s passing sniffers, but it defenitely will not pass a visual inspection.
There seems to be hope though...I've heard of hybrid hondas obtaining some kind of exemption thing from a smog referee. Anybody familar enough with it to provide an explanation, or a translation from Legalese into English to see if it covers SR20s?

i'm sure that there are some car fans out there that won't mind the sr20 shop...i'd ask around...someone might know something...also, a lot of the shops around here don't know much about the sr20 let alone a 240...you may get lucky....
and as i understand it...(don't know if this is just for military) you can keep your car registered in a different state...i have mine registered in california but live in colorado...i even had the registration renewed last august while i was still in colorado...

The exemption you speak of for hybrid Hondas applies only to engines sold in the US. A B18C isn't an OEM Civic engine, but it was sold in the US in the Integra, making it an emissions legal upgrade provided the engine is the same year or newer than the car body, and the emissions systems are all brought along with the engine to match.
The SR20DET was never approved in any form for the US, so it is illegal. However, anyone with the money can do what Motorex is rumored to be doing. There are a number of testing facilities that are authorized to EPA-certify engines, but I believe they can only do it on a case by case basis... one passing grade for an SR20DET doesn't mean they all pass. The fee is steep... about $5000 last I checked. |

im about to move to CA, so im pretty interested in this too...but what the hell is the point of a rolling dyno? are they trying to set some sort of legal power limit or something now?

Ok guys, one rolling dyno's? I think the only place you are going to see those are at street drag racing sites where the cops are trying to crack down i.e. Grants home town San Diego.
For the rest of us in California I drive all over this state all the time and I personally have never seen one of these so called rolling dyno's . So I would not freak about that unless you like to frequent illegal street drag meets which at that point I would be more afraid of the car being impounded period. As far as smog goes . I know of a shop right here in Los Feliz( best neighborhood in Los Angeles) that will pass on tailpipe and does not care about the visual. As far as MotoRex, goes they can get you a legal CARB certification for your SR20DET. It will cost $3000 and judging by what someone else said above about certification stations charging $5000 the MotoRex price is a better deal. As far as KADE's go you want ground pounding torque?? Buy a low mileage KAde off one of these SR swap freaks for cheap and Turbo it. Ya I have a truck motor hahahha watch it eat you for lunch.hahha J/K but seriously the KAde is not a truck motor the truck motor was specifically manufactured in Mexico and the DE was built in Japan. another nail in the coffin of KA truck motor mythology. Seriously though its up to you SR20 rev it up with no Torque. KAde+T with lightened flywheel rev it to 7K with torque and a nice broad power band . bring the flames on folks <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]()

personally I'd rather buy a motor that was built for turbos, then to put a turbo on an engine that was never ment to have one in the first place..but this is just my opinion.
JEdubz: I don't think you can put a FF engine in a FR car without MAJOR mods. the motor mounts would probably in a different location on the block itself. |

Not to sound like a prick. But you're wrong. The KA24E was in the Nissan Hardbody Pick up, and the KA24DE was in the Nissan Frontier and the first year of the Nissan Xterra... Don't believe me? Nissan Engine Catalog

Sorry man looks like MotoRex isn't gonna be doing much with that anymore. Talked to Shawn and he doesn't seem to enthused about it. Also gettin a SR to pass smog is sooo easy..It so much easier to get a hook up especially when there are so many stock 240 sx out there. It's gonna be real easy to pass my SR. Try passing a single turbo T04S FD running 4-550cc injectors and 2-1300cc injectors, no cat no egr. Friggin thing cost me $300 to smog. And remember FD barely pass smog stock.

Guess what JE NIssan has stuck their car engines in trucks for over 30 years starting with the L16 then the L18 then the L20B. After that the NapsZ2.0 and 2.2 I am not wrong and you are a prick . The engine was not installed in the Hardbody till somewhere after 94 . If you want to be the I am going to prove you wrong SR Nazi go right ahead and try . You read a late model product catalog and take it for absolute proof but you don't do the rest of your research. We all know you love SR's so your going to be biased. guess what I am not biased even though it sounds like it the only thing I am biased towards are SR Nazi's who can't see the forest for the trees i.e. The KA is just as worthy engine as the SR . In fact if you want to get into shortcoming both engines have shortcomings. The CA is the only mechanically has all the right stuff .

Rolling dyno's are actually a part of a pollution survey and are voluntary....even though it's hard to tell an officer to his face no.
This is a topic that was brought up awhile back on the Rx-7 and Supra forums.

I think the KA is a perfect candidate for a turbo but I went w/ the SR because my KA had 115k on it and adding a turbo would have pretty much ended the life of my KA w/ the boost I wanted to run. Also the reliability of the engine would have been severely comprimised w/ a turbo.
So to me a 30k SR w/ factory turbo and 205hp and potential for 300hp easy (but expensive <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]() Also I was not turbo literate enough to put together my own setup hell the guy in SCC went through 3 bottom ends before he got his right and I am sure he knows more than me

if you turbocharge a KA you could maybe try and tell the smog technician you swapped a turbodiesel engine in or something like that, they'd probably believe it

read the sig below............ sr20det's do not have any emission's like egr etc etc. you can swap the heads with a sr20de and use the det block to have an egr without needing to fab plumbing and etc. its been done on fwd sentra's b13-b14's to pass emissions.
