my soultion to my ugly first try...

as you all probably noticed, my first shot at fitting my zero offset gramlights was kinda ugly, and mexican flush, so I took a little detour/ regrouping and decided to make a flare out of sheet metal. and this is how I did it, and surprisingly it came out pretty cool. my welder is all fucked up and my friend has my welding mask so I was trying to do this my closing my eyes and them hitting the button but that didn't work.

so heres the steps I took...

first I started by making a paper template...

looks cool in my opinon...

then I taped it to a piece of 18 gauge steel sheet

traced it with a sharpie marker,

then I cut it out and bent it over my knee and messed with it for a bit...

and now I have this...

as opposed to this which looks like shit.

I tried to tack it on with the welder but it fucked up..

enjoy hopefully this thread dont get locked like the last...

yeah...that's a better idea to do, tact/weld some metal flares. I still think some wider rear fenders are in need.

I have 10.5 inch with a +04 offset on my S14 and they stuck out about 2 inches past the rear quarter panel. So of course I had to roll the rears. It is a different way then most and some people don't like the way it looks, but the way I do it you can drop your car down to the exhaust hangers if you wanted ...

I coulda went that route too, but its not quite the look I wanted. plus I am super picky with everything so I hat to make it how I wanted it.

but I hope I helped some people put with how to make some cool ass flares for cheap.

I think I spent a total of 10 bux. shhhhhh!!!! dont tell anyone!!!

I even own a eastwood fender roller too, but I hardly used it. it wasn't the look I wanted.

Its going to look wild when done. Compared to before which was crap. Not my style still but it is definitely a major improvement and will look good. I dont like contributing to the extreme negativity that is Zilvia most of the time so yeah. Keep it going and lets see finished work. By the way, watch out for curbs! The thought of that alone terrifys me.

your car is still WAY too high. Lower it some more, then fitting those wheels will get a lot easier.

"u know ur suppose to make exact duplicate flares... if ur gonna do it that way."

of course I am, thats my I have the paper template. they will be exactly the same.

"your car is still WAY too high. Lower it some more, then fitting those wheels will get a lot easier."

the car is as low as it will get. the front bumper is about 4 fingers off the ground. so I can only go so low...

thanks man, I know curbs scare the shit out of me too. I was getting used to having the bodykit on and I scrubbed it against a few curbs and I was flippin out. but now I got the hang of that, I am planning on just parking hella far away from all curbs. fuck curbs. stupid bastards. lol.

I'm talking about the rears. If you 're going to fit wheels like that on the rear, the lip should be no more than 2 fingers away from the lip of the stock wheel well arch. And 4 fingers for the front isn't that low either.

so I finally got back to the flares and they are coming along great!

here is the passenger side, the flare is tack welded about 12 times all around, and its super strong, I can stand on the lug nuts basically and hang off the flare and it wont break. this shot is of the fiberglass resin over the flare, which is necissary for smoothness.

this is what it looks like after about 6 hours of work.
the green is fiberglass, the gray is bondo, and the red is glazing putty to fill all the little scratches and minor holes.

and after primer it looks like this...

its not perfect but tis close to it. just a little more work and it will be...

hope you like.

we sprayed the sideskirts and front and back bumpers too but the camera died, we just have to finish the passenger side flare, andfix a few dents, spot prime and wet sand the car and it will be ready for paint!!!

im hella excited.

Good job on the flare. The only question I have is did you make a lip on the flare to strengthen it?

As dope as the flares look, and with having the extra room now.....I would get a wider tire so it's not so streched. Just my .02. I would hate for you to curb the shit outta those rims just cuz you have super strechies. It literally looks like the lip sticks out 1/4" farther than the tire. Just asking to be rubbed by some concrete.

Mad props for the DIY though. This makes me wanna try it on my S13.

there really is no room for more tire...

but the good news is the car is painted, and its just sitting in the paint booth all weekend til tomorrow (monday) and tuesday we are installing the whole kit, and putting on the lights, putting on the wheels wheels so it should be fun. I will most definatley post some photoshoot pics.

the sad thing is, I need to get a new cf hood, and im still looking for the koiki tails. I have the center garnish, but Im missing the actual tails.

if anyone has some... please pm me.

Here is a teazer...

and thats only the 1st coat of clear... three more were applied. it came out super smooth too.

stay tuned, much more to come...

oh and heres the 1st uber hated thread.. just incase you want to see the whole car... ya know..
