Radar/Laser Detectors

I've been thinking about getting a Passport Escort 9500i since they've gone down a bit in price, especially if you buy a used one. How many of you on here use a detector or have used on in the past? Which one would you guys recommend?

in b4 don't speed.

There wasn't a specific thread about them and new ones come out every year thus changing what the prices are and what's better in the market.

I don't see any point to a radar detector. If you just pay attnetion while you're driving you can see the cop before he gets you. My last moving violation was when I was 17, I'm 30 now. I've never used a radar detector nor will I ever.

It's not my fault that people have their heads halfway up their asses when they drive and I do not. Why don't you leave well enough alone rather than trying to fuck with someone who'se out of your league kiddo...

People rely on electronic assistance far too much. Yes I do have the vision of a hawk. Yes I am ALWAYS scanning for cops, obstacles, etc... That is how you are SUPPOSED to drive a car.

There was no reason to respond to my post at all so I took offense and took it as you trying to be a big guy and fuck with me. End of story. You can act all innocent, but you stepped over the line a bit there.

I bought one for a friend and was using it before I got it to her. Having it made me just drive faster when it was silent, and way slower when it was loud. Seemed pretty useless, I'll just stick to my normal driving.

But for the OP, Passport if you are cheap, Valentine if you want to spend a little cheese is the general consensus I hear.

Are you kidding me? So you can see around corners and over hills? My detector goes off way before I see the cop car. Not everyone lives in flat terrain.

Personally I find them worthless.

Just drive with the flow of traffic and stay within ~10mph of the posted speed limit.

Seriously, driving on the street is a previlege, not a right. If they posted speed limits or signs not to do something, you suppose to follow it. The only once we use these devices are the ones who didn't follow the rules of the road and the law.

I mean hell, I have to decide to sell my Greddy exhaust and find a stock looking exhaust because I'm moving to Seattle for work because "i follow the local laws."

Exactly, you shouldn't be doing more than 25mph in a small street. You never know a small kid will come rushing after a ball. At least with that speed, you could stop within 10 feet with crappy tires and brakes. I got hit by a car in the past before for this very same reason, I made him regret it with a law suit, but I have permnament knee problems. You know how crappy it is not to drive stick shift for long periods of time without your knee going in pain??? for the rest of your life???

I have been using my Valentine One for almost 3 years now. Far superior to any other radar detector I have used. I have used several variations of Passports and they just dont compare especially since I got 2 tickets using their products. The Valentine One offers POP protection which lets you know the moment they turn their K or Ka band system on which will give you an opportunity to hit the brakes or let off the gas before he gets his accurate reading. Cops cannot use the first reading that appears when initially turning on their radars because it is inaccurate. The Valentine One also has much better range than all others I have tried. Be aware that in order for any radar detector to work properly it should be mounted at the highest point possible in your vehicle while still being able to have bothe sensors detect through front and rear windows. The Valentine One also offers arrows and a digital display of how many and in what direction. So for those cases where there are two cops in close proximity but you only see the one that has already pulled over you will know there is more than one. The Valentine One has saved my butt so many times its not even funny. If you want an over the top radar detector that won't let you done the V1 is what you want. A little pricey but it pays for itslef after the first 3 or 4 saves. The V1 company also offers updates for your detector so if its been a few years and new technology has come out they offer you the option to send yours in to be updated rather than having to fork out another 5 or 6 hundred dollars for a new one. The accessories are also a great feature, offering hard wiring and concealed display which I use both and are fantastic.
Valentine One vs. Other Detectors

As for laser detection and prevention you are screwed unless you get a jammer. Once they pull that trigger you are got and there isn't a detector in the world that can let you know before he pulls that trigger. Great news, Laser Jammers are not federally regulated and are legal in several US States. There have been a few states that have taken it upon themselves to ban them though.

Holy shit. Grandpa convention in here. Is this a fucking sports car forum or a Depends blog? My 35 mile each way all-highway commute involves a 55 mph limit where traffic flow is 75, and if you are in a gap and a cop gets you it's a lot of cash. So save your preaching, jesus what a bunch of babies!
