Don't think McCain would have had a real chance.
It's pretty fair to say that after Bush's term,
the whole republican party got a neg rep.
They lost lots of seats in congress.

But to answer your question, idk.
I do think that (given his past record),
he has proven to be more of a moderate than Obama.
(Imo, Obama views verge on the FAR left)
Generally, I prefer moderates (Democrat, Rep, or Indie)

HOWEVER!!!!
What is absolutely horrifying is having Sarah Palin as the VP.
If McCain passes away, I don't want some right wing radical (& idiot) taking office.
I was leaning on voting for McCain until Palin showed up.

Clinton had some chance.
I DID vote for Hilary in the Democrat primaries.
Would have much preferred the relatively moderate (compared to Obama) Clinton in office.
At least you would have some idea of what to expect.
Think even the conservatives here (I don't consider myself one) would probably agree that would have been the lesser evil.

We needed a radical change. RP was probably the best candidate to improve on the economy and was the most conservative Republican in the party but the Toby Keith listeners couldn't take him seriously because of his lack of involvment in the church and he was so much of a different Republican than what the midstates has grown to know and love.

It all depends on your stance in terms of government involvement in today's financial crisis, & how you predict Ron Paul would react.

Ron Paul might very well reject all economic stimulus packages,
given his stance on reduced government involvement in all matters.
The current recession would have most likely been hit a lot harder,
and economic recovery would take longer.
Inflation in the long term probably wouldn't be so much of an issue.

I am in the general opinion that some level of stimulus would have been beneficial, albeit probably not on the magnitude of the amount Obama is spending.

With Obama (other end of the spectrum?),
there is positive results in certain sectors of the economy.
the stock market IS improving.
It will take time for unemployment to make some improvement, but I'm optimistic.
Long term inflation will be serious concern.
Well, it has been since the Bush years, but might significantly worsen with all the spending and widening deficits.

In some respects, Obama is playing the odds very well, if he wants to get re-elected.
Shit-load of stimulus is going to get results faster.
It is entirely possible we might be out of the existing recession within 2 yrs (if not less).
Voters pay attention to the existing state of the economy far more closely than gradual changes in inflation.
A more moderate stimulus strategy might not be fast enough to produce good results in 4 yrs.
What is good for presidential re-election might not always be beneficial to the long-term economy.

Again, this is why imo Clinton would have been the best option
(this is the anti-Obama thread, not the anti-Democrat thread).
Allow equal parts, in moderation, government stimulus & economic cycles to work things out.

Regulate ONLY the factors that most likely contributed to the existing economic crisis.
Do NOT give out home loans to ppl who don't have sufficient credit.
Re-evalutate the 'Community Reinvestment Act' (google this if you don't know about it).
Do NOT allow balloon variable interest rate home loans.
Increase all loan qualifications.

Do NOT regulate shit for the sake of regulation or just to create publicity.
Instead of just blaming the private section, question some of the public policies/organizations.
Fannie & Freddie had it's share of issues imo.
Community Reinvestment Act actively encouraged Sub Prime lending.

About McCain, no doubt he would have been better than Bush.
Not too sure about Gore, but I would have been optimistic about Kerry.

Things could always be worse.
Consider Nancy Pelosi, Willie Brown, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, or even someone from Zilvia.net as president.

Ron Paul would have been an excellent president.
He wants to get rid of the FED. The FED is not a government agency. It's a private company started from Jp Morgan, Rockefeller, and etc.
The money that is loaned to the government...meaning the money printed is not free. There's an interest to be paid. Who pays that? We do with our income tax.

There was no federal Income Tax before 1913, when the Fed was created.


That's another story in itself.

Obama... this dumb ass keeps bailing companies out. WHY?
These poorly managed companies, profit chasing no long-term goal idiots deserve to crash and burn.
So the government wants to help them out? With who's money? OURS?
I did not purchase Ford, GM, Chrysler for a reason, because they suck, but they still get my money?

Now Obama is messing with subprime.
He's doing loan mods, loan this or that, and now he's trying to prevent evictions.
Most people who are losing their home got greedy by assuming that the home value would rise, and they could cash out. That's their fault, not the government. Majority of home owners could not afford to purchase a home, but yet requirement for loan approval was so pathetic because of Clinton.

The inevitable will happen... people will lose their homes. The longer people try to fight losing their homes, the longer it will take to flip those homes.


I understand Obama is trying to help the economy, but he should stop. It's only f*cking things up more. The longer we try to "stop" this recession the longer we will be in it.

Obama's a lawyer, not a business major/businessman.



Lastly, we're going to be in this recession for awhile. Why?
Unemployment stats... 15 million are unemployed.
Before Dec 2007, it was 7.6 million which was apprx. 5% unemployment rate.
So in order for us to get back to 5% (7.6 million unemployment), there has to be 145,000 jobs PER month for FOUR years.

Ok, I'll chime in for real this time. Im by no means a social conservative, but I am a fiscal conservative. Im all for small government, less taxes, blah blah. Im also a very
"cynical" person, and I think you should work to thrive, i.e. go to college and get a good job to pay for stuff like healthcare, insurance, et cetera.

Barack Obama, and more importantly the liberal majority, is Fucking up beyond all repair the shitty but workable system we had before. You can't possibly be naive enough to believe that ol G.W. is the cause of all our problems. It was the dems that started it, dating back to Carter. They have always wanted everyone to get into a home and be equal. Good idea, but Communism and the Rotary engine were good ideas too, and not everyone is equal. There are people who deserve to be removed from the gene pool, and people who deserve more because they try harder and do more. The dem's basically said to the banks, "if you don't loan to poor people for houses, then we'll fine the fuck out of you, and make it to where you will be able to loan to no one, capice?" Enter adjustable rate mortgages. People making 30 grand a year buying 200 grand houses because the interest rate at first was 3%. Add to that people's natural desire to be the best, living outside of their means, buying $40,000 vehicles, racking up their debt to LOOK successful, then suddenly stuff gets more expensive like gas, people start ignoring bills, they start to loose their homes and vehicles, the bank needs to find the money somewhere, interest rates go up, more people stop paying, banks start to loose money... You can see where I'm going.

We, as a nation, got complacent. We did this to ourselves. We need to get back on the road to fiscal responsability and accountability, and if we need to completely crash to rebuild, so be it. Its everyone's fault. Finding 1 person as a scapegoat, like the Liberals want to to with Bush, is idiotic. Same thing with the conservatives, blaming Obama (even though he isn't helping one little bit). Look in the mirror, and at your neighbor working at mcdonalds driving the Cadillac.

And the system is fucked. There isnt much to say about the system besides that. Welfare, medicare, et cetera... All inherently socialist programs. Socialism and consumeristic democracy don't work together.
