My A/C is like a heater!!!
Its gettin HOT.
My A/C is like a heater!!! All pre 93' vehicles use R12 refridegerant correct? Would it be more cost effective to convert to R134 due to high costs of R12? (Buy conversion kit and fittings)? I would like to hear some input/opinions. Does anyone have a shop reference? Does you know a friend? Any ballpark prices or experience post it up. SOCAL only. Thanks for your time. |

I hear that switching over to R134 you lose 20% efficiency. If I remember correctly, I got my R134 fittings for less than 20 bucks. Just need High and Low service port fittings. Then you need to buy a can of freon with premixed oil and comes with a gauge so you can do it yourself. It's great to have R134 because you can keep recharging it yourself and it's still cheap. If only if you live close, I'd let you borrow my gauge and you can just buy the freon. Goodluck.

last i herd the viscocity in R12 and R134 is differrent...i your car uses one type and u switch over the pump has tendency to blow...
if u have an option to go r12 i say fuck it and do it...r12 gets much colder, much quicker than r134...i remember back when i had my SOHC and would turn on the A/C with weather of 101's outside, shit would be freezing cold inside the car...i remember barely being able to stay comfy in my sisters 2002 RAV4... honestly stick tot eh r12 if u can...but make sure ur lines arent leaking...last thing you wanna do weather you choose 134 or 12 is having leaking lines...

purchase a new drier for about $20ish. Then go on ebay and buy Freeze12 for about 20-30 bucks.
Make sure you evacuate all the old crap in you system. I did this after R134 did not work in my rx7.
