Pulsing Clutch....what can it be?
Okay, so when I am holding in the clutch I can feel a pulsing feeling going though the clutch pedal. It is kinda like someone is just lightly tapping on it from behind the firewall. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? It's a sr w/act stage 2 clutch. I have a SS clutch line, but have not installed it yet. Should I wait, or install and see if that clears it up? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have no idea what it is, but if you're doing clutch line, check this out: http://www.zeroyon.com/index/content/view/32/47/

bad noise + weird vibration is typically a t/o bearing
when its bad you can feel it on the pedal, the steering wheel and the shifter... or even through the seat. |

i had a thread on this recently... i could FEEL mine clanking... i raised my car and it is coming from the transmission... but it stays constant with acceleration... and dissapears mostly with the clutch pressed down...
Sorry im not trying to thread jack... but im just thinking maybe its the same problem and we could both get it solved at once. heres a link to the thread : http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=99745 i have been told that it could be my input shaft bearing (which i figured in the first place.)

yeah that's a different problem then the one here...
there's a big difference between hearing a noise with the pedal up vs. hearing a noise with the pedal down. its the difference between something wrong with the clutch system (tob) vs. something wrong with your actual transmission (input shaft bearings... maybe other internal bearings in the tranny). |

alright guys, I dont have a noise...just can feel a light tapping feeling through the pedal. I can only feel it when it is pressed down. No noise is present right now...will pull it out and check the TOB. Thanks guys

^^^ Agreed, I have had a similar clutch issue 2 times... It was the pressure plate when it happened to me the first time and that little "fork" thing holding the TOB the second.

basically when the clutch pedal is not being pressed and the shifter is in neutral, your drivetrain is engaged. your tranny internals are spinning with the engine. so if you hear a noise, there is a strong possibility it is internal to the transmission. usually it means a bad input shaft bearing. |

my t/o bering is going out as we speek, it makes noise in nutral without the pedal pressed,(going to change it with motor swap) but it doesnt serge the pedal. it may be the input shaft. I'd check the pressure plate, t/o bering first. cheaper to start with

I have the same apparent TOB issue. Mine rattles (noise and feel thourgh pedal) like hell when I get on it, developed suddenly after a quick shift one day after a year of my Spec Stge 2 in the car.
So how long can I ignore this without causing further damage- and what damage am I doing? Also - I heard OE Nissan TO Bearing is best, right? even to use with aftermarket clutch?

As far as how long a bad t/o bering will last, that is relitave. Mine is a couple of months. I do'nt like it, but the swap is close and I want to wait if it will last that long.
As for what dammage it will cause, if it goes to pieces, your pedal will not work, it might messup the fork that holds the t/o bering. |

i drove on a bad one for 2 years.
you could break a tooth on the pressure plate, just to add to the list of potential 'make your car undriveable' problems it could cause. |
