![]() I have a 1995 Nissan 240sx 'base' that I'm trying to make nice and *new*. My first stop is the interior and while I have everything stripped I want to add keyless entry (preferably OEM). I can easily get ahold of an aftermarket system but integration is my focus and the OE system would better suit my needs.
I have a 1996 Nissan 240sx 'SE' model (I assume all SE's came standard with keyless) so I'm hoping I can convert my car to keyless using these parts. I am going to strip my entire interior (including dash) to clean up and put new carpet and headliner in. At this time swapping then entire interior harness would be easy. (if needed) from what I've gathered the keyless module is behind the dash directly above the hood release. (I'll check for its existance in my car tonight) QUESTIONS: Is it hard to add OE keyless to the S14 'base'? What are the components needed to accomplish this addition? What year remotes work? Was there any change in the keyless system from 95-98? Were any changes made to the Nissan keyless system beyond 98, or in other models? Could I take the remote from a newer vehicle for use in my 95'? Thank you, ~Kris

You're in for a rude awakening, hate to say.
The 95 SEs came standard with the keyless/security system, it was optional on 96s. If you just want the keyless portion and don't care about the alarm, you will need to swap the dash harness (SECU is different between keyless and non-keyless) and subharness as the relays for flasher control are located behind the driver side quarter panel. For security you'll also need the tail harness (disarm wire is found at the trunk latch), the door harnesses (arm/disarm/trigger wires are located at each cylinder), and the underhood harness (hood pin and starter kill relay located here). The kicker here is the antenna for the keyless system is located in the rear glass, so you'll need the cable (runs up the Apillar, alongside the radio antenna cable) and the rear glass as well. The module will not pick up a signal unless the cable is grounded to the Cpillar and plugged into the glass (there's a thin strip at the bottom of the glass that serves as the antenna). All in all it's a fair amount of work for something that can easily be added in 5 minutes with an aftermarket piece. |

Here is my rear glass, the lower connector is for my defrost, is the upper connector the one you were mentioning?
![]() Here is a photo of the area below by dash near the 'hood release'. I dont see any silver boxes, could it be the smaller black box in the left area of the image? ![]() ~Kris

Sorry, I was out drinking all night.
The top spade clip on the rear glass you have pictured is the FM diversity antenna. The keyless antenna is at the bottom of the glass, looks just like the FM antenna, one line that branches off into a 'T'. The black box pictured is the SECU, but not the correct one. The SECU handles door lock control, domelight, rear defogger timer, and key warning chime all in one unit, with keyless the same unit does all that plus the keyless and security, but it's a slightly larger box, metal instead of plastic, and with a slightly longer plug. Base models in 95 did have the option for keyless, but it's extremely rare and since it would require a complete changeover of all harnesses they are not prewired. Yours doesn't have it. |
