hi has anyone used any type of chemical to easlily clean the coolant overflow tank. it has alot of gunk inside and cant seem to get a brush inside. maybe simple green??

if any has done this please let me now at [email protected]

Even if you put simple green, you would have to disconnect the tank from the rubber hose to expel the simple green.

Just undo the hose which is attached by one easy clamp, and then clean out the tank as you would clean out a bottle.

Just take the can out and wash it with some simple green and your garden hose... Your can is probably cracked and/or the plastic is brittle, so you might want to use some clear silicon to seal it back up.

I just recently bought a car that didn't even have a usable overflow, so I headed to the junk yard and was lucky enough to find one.

It was in great shape, but dirty inside. All I did was put some water in there with a tiny amount of dish soap, and cut up some sponges into cubes. I threw a bunch of the sponge cubes in the overflow tank with some water and soap, and shook it around so the sponge cubes could clean the inside of the tank while I shook it.

It came out really clean and I'm really happy with the results, just make sure to rins it well if you do use the dish soap.

Just about every S13 has the problem with the reservoir. I was lucky because my car wasn't driven all that much due to a blown motor. Clean it up as much as you can, but sometimes the damage is so much that you'll just have to replace it.

You can always rig up an oil catch can to work as a coolant overflow tank. it adds bling factor and you know an aluminum reservoir won't crack over time.

Easy man.... disconnect it, it will take you less than 5 minutes. Then used stuff called goo gone, the all natural one. Do like a 1/4 of goo gone (small bottle and fill the reservoir to about 1/2. Let it sit for like 10 minutes, and then play the song that says "Shake her like a polaroid picture" for 10 minutes and you are set... Rinse Rinse and Rinses again. Good Luck...
