too hot? too lean?!!!!

problem,
was installing a "exhaust temp. gauge" with some problems,
but finaly it`s working.

the problem starts under driving, cause on uphill with full throtle the exhaust temp goes to 930° celsius.

i`m not to sure but i heard the limit on lightly tuned cars is around 700-800° celsius?

like i said the exhaust-gas get without problems 930° celsius!!!!
what means that i`m running too lean !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry no a/f gauge on board

what make me uneasy now is how hot can get the exhaust temp without damage the engine/turbo??

i got a rebuild ca18det with stock internals and these stuff

air intake
race header
3inch free-flow exhaust
rebuild stock t25 turbo
big fmic ( i know a small turbo like t25 on a big fmic!!?, but hey i`m working on it to get a bigger one)
one step colder spark plugs, 7 i think
power fc
running 1 bar on this small turbo
and after rebuilding the engine the compression is now at 8.8 - 1

maybe i worry to much cause i drove with these setup around 1500miles and the car never show a heat problem with oil and water,

otherwise i serios damage the engÃ*ne

please help, thanks

Wow....that's high.

The "safe" limit is considered ~1600F, which is ~870C...an that's at the manifold, in one of the runners.

If you're EGT probe is located after the turbine, then it'll be ~200F lower or so, so consider the safe limit as ~780F.

Either way, look at:

1) Base timing (could be too far retarded)

2) WAY too rich + slightly retarded timing

3) Too lean

4) Timign too far advanced (detonation = REALLY high EGT's)

You need to get a wideband O2 on there to see what the ACTUAL A/F is...and check the base timing.

Start there, report back for more help.

thanks for your help,
i will buy today a a/f gauge (wideband) but it will at least take 3 weeks until i get it.(i`m from europe)
by the way the EGT is located in the manifold where the four runners connect to one before the turbo,i installed it like it was show`n in
the manual.
i got a omorimeter gauge, i think its not that cheap stuff,
so the gauge shouldn`t lie too much.

so 870C° is the limit, hmmm..... good to know...............damn, more reason to feel uneasy!!!, but i was going to switch the stock head gasket to cometic layer, and can take a look in the cylinder aniway =/

so i go check the a/f and base timming first
thanks for your help
