R32 GTR wheels, are they casted or forged?

So, i'm deeply in love with the r32 gtr wheels w/ the 16x8 +30 offset. Will these fit on the s13 w/ a 5-lug conv w/o any spacers? and are they casted or forged? Thanks man!

magnesium forged.

if you have coilovers, you will need a 3mm spacer in the front to clear the spring using normal size tires (225/50/16)

is it possible to run a smaller tire size to avoid the spacer? I hate spacers... but I have coilovers =/

and yes, the "we produce with spartin air" is the most baller part of it all

umm i run 225/50/16 and they just barely rubbed my front tein HE spring... When I got my set, 2 had smaller tires on them (205/45/16 IIRC could have been 205/40) and i think they cleared without a spacer, but not sure since I just used the tires they came with as rear track wheels.

i dunnoo.. IMO 3mm spacer is small enough to not do any harm, i was hesitant to use spacers but they worked out fine.

I think r32 GTR's are one of the best factory 16" wheels you can get! If i was more baller... i wuld get R33 GTR's, now those are a nice set of factory wheels!!

magnesium isn't that strong, but its hella light. Mag wheels are never as strong as straight forged wheels, but it more than makes up for it in weight.

(i think, I'm almost positive i'm right, though)

yes, magnesium is not as strong as aluminum, it is used because it is substantially lighter than aluminum.

DAMN YOU! You're the one who picked them up from KidZelda a few months back? They were at a good price but I was a few hours too late --- so I'm running GTS-T's for half-price and therefore 1/2 as good.

I've been asking around for a set of R32 GT-R's and I've even got quotes of $1k + shipping from SoCal to NorCal... :ghey:

from what ive read.. manesium is a strong material.. so you could use less magnesium to make a wheel that is equally strong to other forged wheels using different metals. thus, magnesium wheels are very light but still as strong as other forged wheels. rep!

the forging process mite be differnt. it has to like make it super stronger because raw magniseum is a pretty soft metal.

Yup, forging process, just like casting process, varies greatly, which affects the strength properties on the wheel.

Magnesium is not as strong as aluminum, however, it is about 33% lighter by volume. That gives it a better strength-to-weight ratio than aluminum. If you make two parts equally strong, one from aluminum, and one from magnesium, the magnesium part will have to be larger to offset the lower strength of the material.

As for manufacturing process. In casting, the metal is melted into a liquid, and then poured into a mold. This makes nice consistent parts, and is a relatively inexpensive process. With forging, the metal is not melted. Solid blanks are placed in a mold, and a huge press forces the metal into the desired shape. This process produces much stronger parts than casting because the grain structure of the metal becomes all aligned. Because you have to buy a huge press, and the forms must be much stronger, this is a much more expensive process than casting.
