Need opinion on body shop quote
I just got quoted $400 to fix a rusted hole on my frame rail at the jack point and patch up my wheel well section. Before I commit, I wanted some imput if this is a good price or there's a shop that can do better in the York, Pa area. By the way, this quote is from Hakes Body Shop near Hellam.
Heres the pic of the apron section in the wheel well and frame rail ![]() ![]() |

Body work is really hard to gauge. It could cost half that. It could cost 10 times that. It really depends on the shop and the quality of the work. Quotes for body work aren't as strict as mechanical work.
That said, I think that is a little on the low side. Any time you have rust restoration it's easy to go into 4 figures. I would do your homework. Check out the shop and talk to customers there. Also check out what other shops would charge you. |

Maybe you can ask someone there for a side job. That's what I do. No tax whatsoever. Plain cold cash. Just hope that he/she accepts it. I also go to different body shops and ask for prices. Do you tell them that you're going to pay it by yourself and not by insurance? They usually lower the price (Not that much) if you're paying it and not the insurance company.

im gonna tell you something right now. ive done alot of business with body shops in the LA area. and from what ive learned from my many experiences is, YOU REALLY DO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. PERIOD. no if ands or buts about it. Unless you are friends with a body guy that does awesome work and hooks you up, dont take the cheap way out if you are looking for good work. Shop around for prices and compare. Cheap= crappy job, Expensive=like new, good work, midground=could go either way. look at their other cars they are working on. look around the shop to see if they put bumpers and beer bottles and crap on their customers cars.
Thats all i have to say about this topic. |
