Cam timing

What would be the best way to correct cam timing, back to stock configuration.
I have a 98 S14 with the KA, so I changed both cams for the exhaust ones from a 91 model. It worked fine, but them I learned about the plugs that need to be pushed at the back end of the camshafts.
So I removed them once more, but for some reason, the marks I made on the sprokets and chain dissapeared when I came back.
I basically followed the JWT cam installation guide, where the dallow pins and slots are illustrated, put cylinder one a tdc (used the crank as indicator, and put a long screwdriver in the sprk plug hole to make sure cyinder 1 is at its highest position), and positioned the sprokets according to the jwt manual, knowing the first lobes should be facing outward of each other.
The problem is that the car is much much slower now, I'm probably a tooth off, how can I make sure the cam timing is properly set or how can I set it properly?
The fsm doesn't say much about that, it just says to make marks, which doesn't help me.
Thanks a lot, I searched but didn't find anything.

Plugs that need to be pushed ? didn't have to push anything on my 1995 S14.

If this could help, here is how your cams need to be set (2xs13exhaust cams)

-Achieve TDC (top dead center, lobes facing out or line up the markings on the crank pulley.)

-Use two exhaust cams (the ones with the orange paint on them) from a 91-93 KA24DE 240sx (don't argue these are the ones you need, forget about the Altima myth).

-Don't forget to ziptie the cam gears to the timing chain after you remove the cams so you don't lose the position of the gears.

-Install one in the exhaust cam spot on the exhaust side and replace gear in stock position, don't forget the lube.

-Install other exhaust cam on intake side and rotate cam gear 4 teeth counter clockwise (left in layman's terms) don't forget the lube. Manually turn cam with wrench after bolted down until the notch on the gear lines up with the pin on the cam.

-I would also recommend doing at least a revolution manually with a wrench before starting her up to make sure everything is as it should be.

-Pour some oil on the cams, put everything back together, and fire her up, if she doesn't start easily don't force it you messed up somewhere. Start over.

-If she starts you may hear a slight ticking noise, it goes away never to return after the car warms up and squirts some oil up into the cams and buckets.

-Go for a drive.

For stock configuration (2x232 1intake, 1exhaust S14)

There should be 14 teeths in between the chain from exhaust to intake. There are marks on the chain. You can align with that.

Thanks for the reply, is the picture a KA24DE? Looks different.

The text info you pasted doesn't help much as I cannot ziptie to the proper sproket/chain adjustement anymore, that's the issue. All the info I found was related to just mark up the initla setup, nothing regading how to restore one without having the marks.

when you mean 14 teeth from cam to cam, that's from where to where? There is no slack in the chain between my cams, so the spacing is fine I think, it's probably one tooth forward or backward on both cams.

Thanks for your input.

your upper timing chain is marked with 3 different color links right ? Put your car at TDC, align the dots on the sprocket with the marked links and you should be fine. Stock configuration.
