I'm looking for a nice set of aftermarket Pedals for an S13. I'd like to go with something pretty subdued looking (black or almost all black). The best I've been able to come up with so far are the Carbon Fiber looking set by Razo/Carmate. I'm not going with a CF treatment for the car... but they are almost all black. Basically I'm just looking for something that'll match up nicely with a Black metal shift knob and a black metal steering wheel I've got picked out.
Does anyone know of any anodized black pedals out there? Also, are the Razo's just covers to put over your old pedals or are they full new pedals?

The razo's are just covers and are not allowed in SCCA sanctioned events last time I checked.
I have sparco pedals and they are pretty nice. but they are all silver. pics I wrote a review but haven't uploaded it yet, maybe in a few days when I finish the other stuff I'm working on. But basically, these pedals are nice but I wouldn't buy them again. The rubber knobs are annoying as hell, both to install and do fancy footwork on. Sparco has some other pedals that are nice. The ones tnord has look like they'd work well, dono how they'd perform wet though. I don't know anything about momo pedals so I can't help you there. May I ask why on earth you are getting a black metal steering wheel? I assume you mean its uncovered metal...

That's good to know about the Razo...
I'm looking for a nice set of pedals to match the other upgrades I've got in the works. The car is/will be a daily driver for myself and my wife. It'll see occasional autoX duty but that's about it. I point this out because I'm not looking for a slippery pedal set... I just want something that is about stock (or better) in it's grip. Something nice to replace worn out stock pads (as an alternative to new stock pads). I wanted a nice pair of silver/chrome/aluminum replacement pedals. But you said you didn't like your sparco's DSC? Does anyone know of a nice set of realitively plain pedals that arent just covers that perform well? I hate those damn red and yellow carbon fiber ricer sh*t... Thanks

Have you tried your pedals without the rubber grippy things? I look forward to reading your review... in general though, how hard was it?
Also, since I'm having a hard time finding any anodized Black pedals I've been thinking about buying a normal set of aluminum pedals (such as the Sparco's) and finding a place that does anodizing. Anyone know of a place that could do this for me?

My only advice would be to stay away from Razo, Lonza and Type-R pedals... Not that they dont' work just as well, but I see any razo accessory to be... well... degrading to any car it's on. Yes, even a civic. I simply can't stand their stuff.
Go with the Sparcos or Momo pedals. Nothing but the best!

could just be me,...but I don't see what the purpose is behind "race" pedals. I mean, I know some have lil brackets that allow for easier heel-toeing and such...but I dunno...I've just never understood why these things are so popular...my stock pedals work fine for me?! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':nervous:'>

Like most people, I get enjoyment out of such things... when the stock pedals are worn out, why not replace them with something a little nicer? A reason other than looks to get pedals...to drive.
I personally want a set of pedals that will allow me to heel and toe my downshifts. I can watch my feet while standing still and the outside of my right foot just barely misses the gas pedal, like it was intended to be that way (and probably was). In dress shoes with a wide sole I can almost do it, but very unreliably, and when I do I have so little foot left on the brake that I'm very nervous it's going to slip off. So basically I need new pedals that make the gas a bit wider with a flare at the bottom to accomodate some more serious driving. Cosmetic apprearance comes second, though a very close second. Any recomendations? I had planned on the pedal set DSC has, but now am having second thoughts.

![]() ![]() ![]() The only thing I can add to the pedal debate is to make sure there is a little tab so you can stretch (if you need to) - but not so much that it will be a constant slip. You don't want to be the next "Audi." Without a little tab, pretty pedals are about as functional as "Powered by Nismo" seatbelt pads. |

yo, Hippo, do you wear size 15 or something? I'm a size 12 and I can't safely clear that gap by rolling my foot to the right. That's what he's talking about. Heel-toe in a 240 sucks for full size Americans. I don't have enough room under the steering wheel to properly rotate my heel, so I have to roll my foot. You see what I mean?
Oh, and about Audis...it was found that most owners that experienced "Unintended Acceleration" were actually engaging Drive accidentally in automatics. Hence, the new laws requiring the brake to be depressed in order to change gears or start the car. Autos weren't like that before. Audi just settled on the lawsuits to avoid further issues. Well I believe the pedal setup differs between the S13 and S14 (though all the S14's I've been in had aftermarket pedals). The shape of it seems specifically designed to make heel and toeing as hard as possible (probably to avoid the audi effect where mashing on the brake could accidently catch the gas pedal and negate it's velocity redudcing effects). That's great news for my grandmother, but makes braking and downshifting for a 90 degree bend at the end of a 100mph straight a bit dicey (twice on one track). Technically I can cover the distance between the two pedals, but I don't have stable enough footing on the brake pedal to feel comfortable that I won't loose it going over a road joint. I'm also not about to race in dress shoes.
What are you saying about my Nismo shoulder pads? Those dropped my lap times by 6 seconds and added at least 10 hp each (20hp total), the back seat peads only add about 5hp so I haven't gotten those yet. Maybe I'll just paint my pedals yellow and then my extra speed will make up for the time lost due to slow shifting <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]()

I have black carbon fiber Razo's in my s13. They cost me $100 CANADIAN and are by far the nicest looking/feeling pedals ive ever seen or used in any car. Oh yeah, they're not covers - they're actual pedals.

Actually, I don't feel too comfortable spanning that gap either, but don't have too much trouble. I also can't rotate my heel for a traditional heel/toe - so I end up w/ a ball/outer-sole technique. Not as smooth, but it works in the limited circumstances I've needed it. I only use it on the track and even then only on a 1-2 turns. I have considered getting one of those little flip out tabs welded to the back of my pedal just for track days (I'm just too lazy). |

For those doubting the functionality of racing pedals, you must have never driven a car with them <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':blush:'>
They are simply awesome. Sure, I could heal-toe with stock pedals but it takes a lot less effort with racing pedals. Even though there is almost no tab on mine they are really wide so its still easier. If you don't heal-toe downshift, you feel that stock grip is adequate and you don't care about looks...stock pedals are fine. For those who can't heal-toe because of space issues, I'd say you are trying too hard (or are just really frickin big!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]() They are a little too close together, and in 1 emergency situation I mashed the brake (was on the gas, had to switch over very quickly) and didn't move my foot over far enough and i revved my engine way up but still braked hard enough to stop intime. Something retarded like THIS? Most are designed soemthing like THIS and I don't think there is no good way to help heal-toe downshift w/out increasing the risk of mashing both pedals. If I could do it again, I'd get these You need a pedal with a totally flat surface to allow easy pivoting. The rubber knobs on mine tend to get caught up in the traction of my shoes. Very annoying. If I used them w/out the rubber things they would be extremely slick unlike the above shown pedals that have a sort of gradient to them. Thank goodness for this thread, I've been contemplating the same thing. I really like those Sparco pedals, I might get a set. For shift knobs, I really want a Nismo shift knob (the one that is white, shaped like a ball with a flare around the bottom, and nismo written across the flare). The Nismo shift knob that was shown on the link is also really nice.

Thanks... I'm a little bumbed though. I just found out that the Nismo knob I posted the link for is actually made out of rubber. How strange! I'm not sure it's something I want now... I mean, a rubber shift knob?

Its hard to discribe...
The rubber is soft... Not sticky... Ive only had it for about a week , but it was well worth the $68. I spend. One more thing... If you want the Nismo shift knob to cover the same area as the stock one, you better get longer knob!!! I got the C's shifter,and I can see part of the metal between the boot and the knob! Hope this helps!!!

No, it doesn't look too hard at all. Coastek's mom made him a custom leather one...looks damn good! But, thats not why I don't like the nismo or other knobs...I just don't like the feel. Nismo was too light and skinny. The stock 300zx and 240sx knobs just suck...300zx is better but still just a stock knob. I'm looking at the razo Cf knob thats weighted to 400g and is pretty tall. Should shift really really well, but I don't know if I'll like the feel since the shape isn't my fav (same/similar as nismo but 2x the size) My other choice is the sparco globe-x knob or whatever its called...just a ball basically, should be pretty cool.

I love the C's shifter!
Installation was very simple.Just make you have some needle nose plyers,it took me longer removing the C shaped clip holding the shifter ,than anything else! One more thing,when you are ready to slide the rubber booth over the shifter put some grease/oil on it, otherwise youll never get it in there!!! Some people say that after a while the shifters loose their thightness,NOT TRUE!!! you just get used to the feeling!!! Good luck!!!

Btw, if you like the globe shaped one by Momo you may want to consider looking at other brands. I was just sitting in a friends Miata today and really liked his Ball style knob. I didn't catch the name but it was very well made with a nice slightly grippy speckle texture over the black metal knob. Round Ball knobs are very popular in the miata community, with probably the Voodoo series of knobs being the most famous. Here's a link for you to check out some of the products that've been reviewed (including the voodoo). Currently the voodoo doesn't offer an application specific knob for us... however, they do list the thread measurements. Anyone know what our's is? Maybe one of their applications will work. Like most guys I am reel fond of my Miater and over the yeers I have commenced to doing a few things that other people who don't have one of these little cars might find somewhat pecoolyer but seeing as how you have a Miater yourseff you probably won't because you know how we get. This pecoolyer thing I do in my case is, whenever I go out first thing in the morning I like to say ''Good Morning`` to my Miater and give her a little kiss. For the first couple years I kissed her on her nose but heer lately my gararge has gotten kind of full on account of the 1959 Edsel I am restoring in there, and so I have been parking the Miater outside. Now I have to admit, I am not one of them annual retentive guys who keeps his Miater all shined up like new, and sometimes the bird poop that acoomalates from me parking under that old tree by my gararge gets pretty bad. In fact it gets so bad that my little morning kissing rityall was sometimes leaving an unpleasint taste in my mouth, if you catch my drift. So a couple months ago I started thinking about finding me a different place to give my sweetie her morning smooch. Well I never did come up with me a better place until about a week ago when the Ups man brought me the new VooDoo nob what I had ordered from that Brain-Fade outfit down there in Atlanta. As I was screwing my new nob on the stick shift it hit me that this would be the perfect place to plant a ''Good Morning'` kiss! After all the nob sits pretty much right in the heart of the car, and being it is inside it stays nice and clean, specially since my hand always keeps it wiped off reel nice. I decided right then and there that I had just looked for a clean kissing spot on the outside of the car for the last time, I guess you could say it was a case of VooDoo being preferable to DooDoo, ha ha ha. Anyway to get back to my problem, ever morning when I go to work I like to put my briefcase in the trunk so right after I unlock my door I always lean inside and pop open the trunk lid using the remote release deal I mounted in that little bin between the seats a couple years back. While I am all bent over like that it is reel easy to lean up and plant a quick wet one right on top of my VooDoo nob. So that is what I have been doing. And I would have to say this heer new rootine has worked out reel good even if I do say it myself, well right up until this morning anyway. You see last night it got down to about 8 dergrees and whenever I went to give my Miater her kiss this morning, I'll be dad-gum if my tongue didn't stick right to that polished aloominum VooDoo shift nob! Right heer I need to say something, and what it is is, I hope you don't go getting no wrong ideas about me on account of what I just said. You might think its kind of funny that it would be my tongue that got stuck to the nob, instead of say just my lips. I mean, since it was my tongue, you might go to thinking I must be some kind of prevert and was practicing some kind of weerd unnatcheral act on my Miater's shift nob. Well I want to assure you that was not the case. No sir! I will admit there has been a time or two in my life when I was pretty bad off about wanting some female company but I ain't never been so hard up that I'd go around french kissing a shift nob. Of course I have to admit that it has been sort of lonely around the old Double-Wide here lately, on account my wife ran off and left me a few months back because I was spending more time and money on that old Edsel than I was on her. If you saw my wife you would unnerstand why. You may have heerd people say the front of an Edsel looks like a `58 Oldsmobile sucking on a lemon but I am heer to tell you, that car is a lot more attractive than my wife ever thought about being. In fact I once tried to pick up some quick extra money by entering her in an Ugly Woman contest down at this bar I go to, only the guy up on the stage took one look at her and refused to take my entry fee on account he was afraid it might look like the contest was rigged, but that's another story so never mind about that. Anyway what I was trying to tell you is, the reason it was my tongue what got stuck instead of just my lips is because the driveway was reel slick after ever thing froze up last night, and when I was leaning in the car my foot slipped and I ended up almost swallering that silly shift nob. That's how it happened. Really. Well as you may have guessed since I am able to write this heer letter, I did manage to get my tongue unstuck, but it weren't easy. It was acterally not so bad fishing my keys out of my jacket pocket and starting the engine and turning on the heeter, but it was right embarrassing to stand there with my butt sticking out the car door while I waited the 20 minutes it took for the inside of the car to get warm enough so's my tongue would come loose. I am sure all the people in the apartment building across the road got theirselves a reel good show as they went off to work this morning. What I want to know now is, just what are you going to do to keep an unfortunate incerdent like this from happening again? It seems to me the very least you could do is put some kind of warning label on top of your nob, after all there is lots of room, seeing how you are too damn cheap to put the shift pattern on it. Or maybe instead of aluminum you could use some kind of metal that human tongues won't stick to. Anyway you sure do need to do something, and fast. Don't worry I ain't going to report you to the goverrmint because I ain't that kind of guy, but the next person this happens to might not be as unnerstanding. Well that is all I have to say about this so bye. Sinceriously, Delbert U. Dykes p.s. If you can't figure out how to keep peoples tongues from sticking to your nobs, the least you could do is make them taste better. My personal favorite is chocolate but then it hardly matters since I alreddy got my VooDoo nob, and after what happened this morning I'd have to be pretty stupid to buy another one now wouldn't I. p.m.s. I know that some companies give out rewards to people who have good ideas for improving their products, if your company has a policy like that you can just e-mail me the check.
