a 240sx thats sat for awhile...

Background:
Well, about a year and a half ago around thanksgiving, I went out to start my 240, it turned over, but didn't start, it was snowing, and I had stuff to do, so decided to pull the battery and charge it, and let the car sit till i could get back to fixing it.

Following early summer, got back to the car, charged the battery, put it in the car, car first turned over, sounded kinda bad, then tried jumping it which caused some sparks, anyway, once again let the car set.

Now, working on the car, the car doesn't turn over at all. Only thing that happens when the key is turned to Start is it sounds like the fuel pump turns on.

-----------------

Battery reads 12.30 volts, when the key is turned to start it sounds as if the fuel pump goes for a second and quits, the warning lights stay fully lit, and the speedo blinks off for a second. also when the key is moved to start the battery still reads 12.3.

Where is the most likely problem and really how should i go about trouble shooting this? I finally have the time and means to get the car running again and would really like to.

Batteries due tend to go bad if not properly maintained, I would first try a new battery. Also when trying to turn over do you put new gas in or is it the old gas thats been lying their. Gas aftera certain amount of time will go bad and get to a point where it doesnt even become flamable.
