aftermarket header wrap

I did a seach for header wrap and got a few hits, however nobody gave any recommendations. What would be the best wrap for a set of hotshot headers.

I had originally had thermo-tec exhaust insulation wrap, had it on for like 5 minutes and it started smoking realy badly, just about filled the garage with smoke.

What would you guys recommend, an exhaust jacket or manifold blanket.

Thanks for your help

Thermo Tec

The smoking is completly normal. Is just the chemicals on the wrap curing.
The smell will last a couple of days, more if you installed the wrap damped.
I have the wrap just before the converter, inlcuding the pipe. Will lower the temp under the hood considerably.
Be sure to use a good quality clamp or the thermo tec one, not included in the wraps.

Aren't hotshot headers polished steel? I would rather have them nice and shiney than covered up by the wrap.

Me too

But I will rather coat them with jet coat or something similar.

I use header wrap on my STOCK manifold since I bought the car, also I kept the heatshield for maximun heat protection.

Unhappy Mine

Smoked for like 30 to 45 mins at idle.
It will smoke more if you drive the car hard or even use the car.
I installed mine wet, soaking wet, use some gloves and/or long sleeves because this thing will ITCH like hell!!

I did this on the stock exhaust manifold and before installing the wrap, I degreased the hell out of it, dry it and then install the wrapping.

Good Luck & happy cooling

"Aren't hotshot headers polished steel? So from what I've gathered from everybody wraps are pretty stanky? My question is that its always stanky in the rain or after a period of rain it'll stop? (rephrase, after a while on the car, when it rains it won't stink?)

even if you spray it down with some heat coating stuff made for it?(I've seen it in different colors,I just was sufing jegs..)

(I don't want to jack this thread,I'm just wondering for myself at this point)

They

will stink a little bit only if they get wet
as of the water evaporating off the wrapping
Nothing to serious really.
I plan to install my HS header(coated) soon WITHOUT the wrap, check the underhood temp and check the differences.
Will keep you all posted.

So is there anyway that the stock heat sheild could be used with a Hotshot header...would it be worth it ? Or to have one made so you don't have to deal with the stank
