lower engine harness facts.

i thought it might be useful if someone who knows harness differences to make a sticky. =)

i was wondering if the lower engine harness from a s13 ka24de can plug into a '95 s14 ka24de w/o major modifications.

just incase the obdII harness is different, i wanted to mention that my car is a '95.

i searched, and found several posts about lower engine harness, but it's not quite what i'm looking for. i'm putting the KA back into my s14, so i can do a full rebuild on my SR. i don't feel like rewiring, my friend has a DOHC s13 parts car, and i was thinking i could just use the lower engine harness from his car, haven't looked at it yet, but i thought someone could shed some light on the subject, wether i can plug and play the lower harness, or use it without doing much rewiring.

i've been playing around with my SR lower wiring harness, but haven't figured out what i can use and not use as of yet, be working on it tomorrow.

i also have a sohc lower harness, but that one seems useless cuz it's not the right length in some areas.

Don't know for sure.

But if nobody responds I suggest comparing wiring diagrams from the two FSMs.

For what it's worth, I'd place my money that they are interchangable.

if you have a sr lower harness uncut, i'll trade you for one that modified for sr already.

SOHC, S13 DOHC, and S14 lower harnesses are all different. To add to that, the 97-98 differs from the 95-96 as it has a 4wire O2 sensor vs. a 3wire. The SOHC harness matches the SR in the main plug (OPS, VSS, etc.), the S13 DOHC is similiar but is only a 4pin, not a 6pin. The S14 plugs are nothing like the S13 or SR stuff.
Now, if you have an S13 DOHC or S14 you just use the existing lower harness, as it plugs into the underhood harness and all the connections are in the same place on an SR. For a SOHC, you can use the SR lower harness or modify the SOHC harness since the alternator and power steering are on opposite sides, basically it's just a matter of shortening a few wires.

Note that this works for both auto and manual cars, the only difference for an auto is you have to hardwire the reverse lights. And a manual harness, although it does plug in, is useless on an auto car since the wiring needed for reverse lights doesn't exist in the underhood harness where it would on a manual car.
