New Vlsd Dont Work Help!!!!

Ok so i blew out my old vlsd, that one did work.. if i pop the clutch and power braked it both tires would light up.. and when launching it worked most of the time, every once and awhile it would go on vacation or somthing.. anyway i got a VLSD from a junkyard today.. put it in and tired it out.. 9 times out of 10 it is 1 tire fire when i power brake and launching pretty much sucks all together.. can i fix my current one? how does a VLSD go bad i thought they just broke but didnt really wear out... i have 29 days left to take it back...

VLSD sucks! If your racing a lot get a clutch type. You can't fix it, its a sealed unit.

my vlsd lasted one drift day now it doesnt lock hard enough for me and I never hard enough in 1st to do donoughts and it only gets sideways if I throw the car and clutch kick in first. Crazy thing is though as soon as I hit second it locks up and the car gets sideways no problem. Clutch kicks in second always initiate but 1st never locks up hard enough to do it.

Where did you get it...from what car?

How are you sure it's a VLSD?

I've seen MANY, MANY junkyards sell a stock S14 open diff as a VLSD b/c they assume it has ABS, and then their system shows it as having a VLSD as well.

If it's from a J30, then it's a VLSD...but could be worn out.

There's the problem. You're gambling by getting a VLSD from a junkyard. The harder it was driven in it's previous life, the more chances that this VLSD is toast.

VLSD's wear out over time, and quicker when driven hard. Return it, save $, get a Clutch or Helical unit, and you'll be happy for years to come.

From your post it seems like you like doing burnouts... Get a clutch LSD and call it a day.

The other option if you're hardcore enough is getting your open diff welded = always locked.

VSLD = SHIT

I should know... mine worked wonderfully with my s14, but about 6 months after I put it in my sr powered s13 it went to total crap mode...

Id take that diff back and buy one of these

i have a vlsd and a Tomei 2-way. a world of difference but both are a waste of money compared to welded if it's for drag/drift. for daily driven/road race i'd get helical.

I have a VLSD...
it has 90K miles (off an S14 owner, who was a suspected enthusiast, since he replaced it with an S15 Helical LSD)..

It locks up just fine...
but only on grip runs lol.

I've only done ONE (yes. . one.. ) shitty drift in 2nd and it seemed to feel way different than the open diff .. both wheeels locked.

But I don't want to beat on it and ruin it, because i mostly do grip runs either way, so why drift and ruin it.

I doubt it will stay in good shape for many many drift runs.... so yeah, unless you're willing to Overhaul the thing with new internals (especially the viscous fluid couplings)... it probably won't do that well.

<-- switching to nismo 1.5 way for $800 in a year, when i get more into drifting and stop gripping..

I've had my vlsd for about two months and it has been working great (nock on wood) since then. I beat on it every day but not constantly, leaving two tire lines every where i pleased. I pulled mine form a J30, and paid like 150 bucks. Of course i had to open it first to check it out and wow it smelled like pure crap. I've smelled some diff fluid before but this one took the cake. I knew that i got a good one....lol But i agree about getting a 2 way because in the long run its better. But in my situation you cant beat 150 dollars. Really it all depends what you want to do and if you have the money to do it. Slide or Die
